Hey guys, the other day I had the opportunity to run a brandy new dynasty 350, and was told "weld with it all day, and if you like it, we'll buy it"so I did, completely neglected my older syncrowave. I did everything on the dynasty, AC aluminum, dc tig on stainless and steel, and just generally ****ed around with the settings...and I hated it. It didn't sound like the syncrowave I knew and loved, the AC felt...just really weird, i messed around with pulsing, and changing the hertz, just playing around with it, my welds came out great, but it just felt so wrong after welding with my syncrowaves (every welding job i've ever held i've run syncrowaves)any thoughts? is it truly a better welder? My coworkers loved it, but I'm on the fenceopinions?Miller Spoolmate 200 w/t S-52 WirefeederMM 211'09 Miller Trailblazer 302

Reply:That's ok. I used to kick butt on my old Linde305s. I sold my last on some 4 years ago like a dummy and took 2 years to tune my Dynasty200 to weld like it. On the whole, yes I think they are worth it. Reply:I agree with you on the Dynasty's welding habits on AC..... they're just plain odd compared to a Syncrowave. Then you get it dialed in.And you never look back.Miller Dynasty 200DXMiller Spectrum 250DMiller Millermatic 200Bunch of old blue dinosaurs....

Reply:Hello Ian, aside from everyone else's comments. You will have to spend a lot of time on the Dynasty to really appreciate it's capabilities. Hidden menus and accessing them are the key and aren't necessarily easy. Understanding and applying all of those settings is a whole other world. Just the different waveforms of AC that it is capable of could be daunting, it has five compared to what you are used to on the Syncrowave, 1 type. If you take the time to play around and experiment you will be able to get it to weld like the Syncrowave, but if you apply some of it's other capabilities and compare results you may start to care less about how you perceive it's welding characteristics and more about it's capabilities. Just my $.02. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:I kinda compare the new inverters vs transformers to cars. The inverters being these new cars that are beautiful super fast and handle like there on rails. Computer assisted everything. Takes away from the feel of the road. The transformers to the older cars like muscle cars or my 72 Datsun 510. There elegant, handle great and have loads of character. Takes skill to drive there quirky but if your patient there's none like it. Can do all those things the new cars can do. Just takes some skills.
Reply:Dynasty 350 vs SWave.  No comparison, based on run'n a Dynasty 200DX for 2 yrs.  Once the "350" is dialed in, you'll prob wonder WTF was I thinking.   Embrace the advantage....and rip the "350" "Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:If you ever run an excavator, are used to Cat controls, then try John Deere, You think "this is tough!" Tomorrow you do it again, you think "maybe they got something here". it's awkward, but fine motor control with the dominant hand is a good idea. By the third day you wonder what the problem was.I hate learning new technology, but Dynasties are incredible! It's true, Zap can do it all with stone age technology, he's had 40 years to perfect his craft. With a Dynasty you can do it with less skill. Frequency is a precious tool, square wave is a truer shape than the Syncro, Pulse can be nice. Auto line is invaluable on the end of 100' of extension cord. I am amazed how dirty aluminum can be with it. Mine is the 280 DX it welds 1/2" aluminum with ease, I did a couple pieces of 5/8 successfully. I don't yet have amplitude, but am interested. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:Don't listen to them - inverters are just a fad. Stay with big, old, dirty, beautiful, power hungry transformers - all that extra versatility and adjustability is just not needed Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Pro set gives you similar arc to a dialed in Syncrowave. Sine wave is similar to Zap's, or Dave's refrigerators. I don't do a great deal of steel. The tune ability of Dynasty is nice. In a well designed shop setting voltage is good, any machine will perform at its best. The low consumption of Dynasty, together with Auto line, make it uniquely adaptable to low voltage, long extension cords, etc.Last edited by Willie B; 01-11-2015 at 08:56 AM.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:Originally Posted by Ian DuffinI definitely feel this comment, I was going off the little cheat sheet they give you with the machine, I ****ed around with the settings as much as I possibly could in 8 hours, but I couldnt get it to be "comfortable" I like the syncrowave because its simple, throw it on ac, and ride the lightning...the Dynasty, just seemed to take forever to setup to the point where it was "right"...granted, I might get another 8 hours with it monday, and I'll give it another chance, its not my money to play with but I get the final say x) Thanks for the input guys, @MinnesotaDave I agree 100% hahaha

Reply:Took me a while to get used to my syncro 210 as I was used to welding with my old powr kraft hi freq setup, Inverter machines are awesome once you get them dialed in but I can't compare my machine to a dynasty 350 which has to be one hell of a machine.
Reply:I know a guy that had a SW 250 and would blow a 60 amp breaker. Now he has a Dynasty 300 and can run it all day on a 30 amp breaker. He had to change his thinking about AC TIG but much prefers the Dynasty. The only thing I've heard and CEP can confirm is that the Dynasty 300 sucks for stick welding. I'm wondering if the 350 is an improvement with stick? SW's are pretty good with stick.
Reply:It does have to function as a stick welder, my coworker is the stick welder, and he ran a few 7018 beads, said he couldnt get it dialed it (I set up the syncro for him too...dummy) so that was already a scratch against it from the boss man (again, I'm kinda the welder guru at the shop. they can weld, but they dont have a ****ing clue when it comes to dialing in the settings) So I'll fight to get it tomorrow. Ill make the jumpMiller Spoolmate 200 w/t S-52 WirefeederMM 211'09 Miller Trailblazer 302

Reply:I went from a Dialarc HF to the Dynasty 350.On single phase, the 350 has about the power of a 250 transformer. As for getting used to it.  I had a sine wave machine that when you tried to weld into a corner or a fillet, it was pretty much anyone's guess were the arc was going to go.  With the dynasty its a pointed tungsten and its like precision surgery.  Step on the pedal and the puddle forms instantly and right where you want it.  Yes its louder (I use soft square wave, 100Hz but have tried all the way up to 200+ Hz and down to 60Hz).  I will not go back, I know I sucked with Dialarc and I don't care.  I now have the "proper tool".Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DXThe Dialarc HF's weren't the best as far as TIG machines. The Syncrowave 250 almost instantly put them out of commission.
Reply:Until you get to kill, I don't see a difference between a Dialarc HF and Minnesota Dave's refrigerator. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:Dave's refrigerator was a top of the line TIG machine and was comparable to an Idealarc TIG 300/300. Both excellent machines in their day. A Dialarc HF was a basic machine capable of doing AC/DC TIG. The school I went to had an Idealarc TIG 300 and something went wrong with it that nobody could figure out. It was replaced with a Dialarc HF and the sheet metal shop also got a Dialarc HF. There was no comparison! The welding teacher was very experienced with TIG and wasn't impressed with the Dialarc HF at all. He actually said it was a poor TIG machine. Miller knew they weren't the best either and that's why came out with the Syncrowave 250. I worked at welding supply for a few month's in the early 90's and they got a deal on some of the last HF's made. They were blowing them out for $1600 which wasn't much more than a standard Dialarc.

Reply:Yes, for a basic AC/DC TIG for a small shop or a garage a Dialarc HF is decent machine but it's apples and oranges comparing it to machine designed for high end TIG welding. Hobart Cyber Tigs were supposed to be really good too but you don't see to many of them.
