Man i called up today and bought some stuff and after i was done, i was so pissed off it wasn't funny. I have a new book that came in the other week. I needed some stuff for the lathe and mill. I put together a list and wrote my prices down to get an idea what i was going to spend. I **** you not......I had to add damn near 85.00 to the order because of price increase do to FUEL cost, which i wonder how long people will use that as an excuse, and other charges.Any other place that sells good stuff at a good price????Aaron
Reply:I'm lucky enought to have an MSC right down the street from me. I try not to have them ship unless I need it ASAP. If they bring it in the their place with their regular order I pay $0 for shipping. Last time it took them 2 days instead of the 5-10 days they said. I can wait even that long as long as I know in advance I need it.McMaster Carr, Graingers, Emco all seem to be about the same as MSC shipping wise. They know that they have you by the balls, so they can charge what they want.

Reply:Pawelder, do they have a scratch and dent section at that location? Before the Warminster location changed from a shipping warehouse to a catalogue center, I used to pick up all kinds of sweet deals on discontinued or damaged merchandise. A good portion of their front room was dedicated to clearance items. I'm guessing you're near the Harrisburg location. I head out that way on a semi regular basis and wonder if its worth a swing by MSC there if they do.
Reply:MSC owns Enco, and it also owns J&L.Sometimes they have cheaper prices, or better shipping, sometimes not, but often the stuff comes from the same warehouse, just with a different name on the box.
Reply:I have a Grainger, Wholesale Tool, and a bunch of local places that stock that stuff.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Is there a local place that sells the stuff you need? You could price it out with the little guy, may be more per item, but maybe there won't be hefty B.S. charges.Yup
Reply:Just curious; does anyone here know (without looking anywhere) what MSC stands for? I don't think it's been that long since they changed the name. Either that, or I'm older than I realize. MSC used to not  charge California Sales tax,so the charges for shipping weren't bad. Now that they charge for both, I only use them if I absolutely need to, which ain't often.
Reply:I want to say Manhattan Supply Company, but can't find anything to back that up quick in my old catalogue 05-06.
Reply:You don't need to back it up; you are correct. I used to have something with the old name, but don't know if I still do.
