Was at a friends shop getting some stuff done when i found this welder stashed in the corner and haven't seen one like it before so i'm assuming its pretty old. here is a pic i got
Reply:Is this old or just deceiving??No not so old, as far as good 'ol USA built welders age. Why? Brick red paint instead of dark or light grey. The current indicator looks like white plastic instead of metal. My guess is 1977, give or take a few years.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 03-11-2009 at 12:07 AM.
Reply:We had one of those sitting on a shelf in the shop for years just collecting dust and they gave it to one of the guys to haul it off a couple weeks ago.  Saw one on Craigslist recently for $800 - not that I'd pay that much or the seller will get that much even though they're a bear of a welder and will outlast all of us.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I'm not too absolute on the price, but I was looking at the bigger Lincoln stick machines the other day, and it was in the 4 figures to buy one, and it took a huge breaker, and weighed a ton.  I'd give an arm and a leg to get one.I'd have to sell the dog"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Great machine, a guy I do work for has one and it has burnt thousands of pounds of rods and still humms away.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:BTW that is a real "toumbstone", the home crepo ones are "cracker boxes".Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:It's Old.....  Need to give it to me, and I'll get rid of it for you.  I have one that I dad bought in the 60's, and it's a great machine.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I have my eye on a newer version of that 250...If I play my cards right, it will land in my lap...(ouch)... Question... Is there something special in the electrical design of this welder?    What about the Lincoln HF TIG adapter?

Reply:I have one just like it in the shop. I have a GTAW torch and  HF box and water cooler on it as well. Great machine bit of a challenge to weld thinner aluminum with it. but when that's all you got better than a poke in the eye with a sharp electrode

Reply:You can find out when it was made on the Lincoln web site if you have the serial number. I had one of those given to me, guy didn't know if it worked and just wanted to get rid of it. I opened it up and blew the dust out of it and put some leads on it. Apart from the fan being a little loud, thing welds like a dream. It was built in the late 50's early 60's according to Lincolns web site.Last edited by EdKing; 03-12-2009 at 08:50 AM.Reason: spellingEdKing
Reply:That's a great find.  They are good old machines.  Not to hijack the thread, here is what I bought on eBay a few years ago.  Guy had several listed at the same time (that's where he screwed up, if he had listed one at a time, he'd have made more money) and I got one for his opening bid of $200.  Item location was in Mississippi.  Came from Vo-Tech school originally.  Cost me another $195 for freight shipping to PA.  So, for a $395 investment, I've got an "oldie but a goodie" from Lincoln.  Sometimes there are some real good finds on ebay.  There are some original "Tombstones" there right now.  Freight sometimes isn't too bad either.  Check with freightquote.com.  Sometimes the sellers of these machines can arrange freight shipping.  You might just be able to come up with a great machine for not as much money as you think.  Anyway, here's what I bought, a TM 300/300: Attached Images
Reply:But then I'd have to build a shop.  Couldn't haul that around on a cart"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
