Cast Aluminum Tranny Part???

I have a cast aluminum transmission part to weld. Any precautions to make on oiled cast aluminum ???

Reply:I have a top form a GMC manual transmission. The shifter is in a flat housing that is held to the transmisiion by 4 bolts. One of the ears broke off. The mounting hole is still intact. The break is past the hole by roughly 1/2". The part in question has some transmission oil (maybe ATF) on it. If you guys need more info let me know!!!

Reply:Unless you can clean both sides your fighting an uphill battle.....The oil must be cleaned away and the casting skimmed off with an angle head sander to get down to clean parent metal.
