I been following the generic test forum and i'm not impressed with the imported units performance or reliability/dependability down the road so never mind with those.I can get a powermax 30 case, enhanced consumables, circle guide liquidation 834.00 air gasor thermal dynamics 38 with the one torch for 720.00They both are open box deals with new torch and full warranty now which one. I like the detachable torch feature and one torch on the 38on the other hand the 30 supposed to have better consumables and technologywhich one would cut cleaner the 30 says it's faster I would be cutting roofing tin or 1/4" max maybe 3/8 once or twice
Reply:Either one should do the trick.   My preference is Hypertherm.  $825 is a smokin deal on a Powermax 30 with case and circle guide!   I'd snap that up in a heartbeat!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:ya thanks for the input ...now I'm leaning toward the 38 for the detachable torch and pricemy mistake it was 720.00 tax and 50.00 shipping  the pmx 30 is  879.00 tax 50.00 shipping air gas has to charge shipping just gonna have to order one soon
Reply:I wouldn't trade my Powermax 30 for anything. I put about 5hrs on mine today cutting .25" plate. This is a cut done by hand using a piece of flat bar as a guide. I did this in the backyard and I'm just your average joe no fancy machines. If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:WoW that looks clean  hmmm  debating I really dont like my mig because the gun dont come off and made a cart to support the hose and now its not as portable but never kinked the liner so The detachable gun looks like the way to go for the price cant think of the hp 45 omg the wife would shoot me for sure...she still might omg lol
Reply:Wish someone had pics of what that TD 38 will do with the drag gun  "1 Torch" different types of tips and all drag, standoff, gouging.but the 30 PMX has better consumables from what i hear "state of the art".designed not to need all them maybe ..... can you get different tips for the 30 gouge, drag, standoff  or does one actually do it all pretty goodNow is that pmx 30 that much better ,cleaner ,faster or they just pushing the little thing it's all any lws has on the shelf or in stock around here.and getting my hands on consumables at the moment needed would be pricelessloookin like the pmx for consumables and no start cartridge to worry about.
Reply:My vote would have to go for the Powermax 30 . I've had one for about 6 months now and it performs beautifully . I was cutting 3/8 plate just this past weekend and it chewed through it with a real nice cut with no issues at all . 1/4 is a breeze .One thing I will say , is that that the consumables have lasted a lot longer that I ever expected they would . A HUGE improvement over my older TD model .
Reply:Ya thanks that's what i wanted to hear.. they really sound like a top notch unit and the blend of metal in the tips and technology definitely the way to go for sure.now i gotta wait till tomorrow . to transfer more funds to cover the POWERMAX
Reply:Tony,I'm not die hard on any manufacture. I did a good bit of research before my purchase and Hypertherm was the decision I made. The most memorable reason was when I called Hypertherm's customer support before I even made the purchase. I wanted to ask them about the circle cutter that came with the deluxe kit. Here is how the call went..Dial..... ONE Ring.... Hello This is Mike (I think that was his name) Hypertherm support how can I help you?..... ( This is where I almost dropped the phone...#1 no phone maze... #2 a person that was alive...in the USA #3 and he knew exactly what I was talking about, gave me part numbers and everything!)This is what sold me on Hypertherm, and Jim Colt floating around here didn't hurt at all either. And after reading Tigster's post I had to conduct a test, he blazed through some 3/8" I had to match him with some 3/8" rusty old field pipe (I think it was closer to 7/16" but who cares). It was slower going then 1/4" but it cut through it nice and smooth. I used some aluminum to keep the cut strait.Last edited by 500HpSilverado; 03-23-2009 at 11:11 AM.If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:Check out the cut on this wood splitter wedge....it was done with a Hypertherm Powermax1000.....which is only rated for 5/8".... The main part of the wedge is 1" thick, with the bevel cuts done with the plasma as well. The cuts were done with the torch on a PlasmaCam machine, the bevels were done with the torch duct taped at an angle! There was dross...but it chipped off easily!  I built this splitter about 5 years ago...Jim Colt Attached Images
Reply:I just waited for one of those 10% off through PayPal codes and bought one of the ones off of Ebay. brought the price down to just over $900 and didn't have an open box."Common sense is not very common"http://www.tahoekeyshome.com
Reply:Well I just couldn't wait now I'm the proud owner of  a new POWER MAX 30! with the case, circle cutter,Enhanced consumables, gloves and shoulder strap!!!whoo whooOrdered at lunchtime yesterday so it's on the way be burnin metal .  I don't even believe I was looking at those GENERIC models.  They are sorta shiny like a fire truck and stuff but thats about all they got goin for em from what I saw out of the nozzel performance.Let alone the customer service dept. Thanks for the direction on buying a excellent piece of equipment and I saved American jobs by purchasing from the good old U.S.A.Now i can say I do have THE BEST unit on the market hands down.Heck with one of those generic models folks around oklahoma would laugh you out of town. let alone tell everyone you have substandard equipment and hire someone with good equipment that is dependable and  not supporting CHINA. And getting lil vendors rich off my hard earned dollar buying consumables and boat anchors NOPE not me.Thanks again the pics speak a thousand words and reading Jim colts posts his professionalism and knowledge of the industry had definitely convinced me    thanks      Tony
Reply:Well I have to tell you folks the Hypertherm PowerMax certainly sold me! I was at FabTec in Las Vegas and saw almost all of the different companies performing but when I walked by and saw Jim what Jim was cutting it was amazing to watch. The kerf, cut speed, and cut quality are what sold me.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

BUY GOOD STUFF!  "AMERICAN ONLY"!!!  IF POSSIBLE    too much junk to dig through these days to find the good ol stuff LOL. I don't like buying junk unless it's a throwaway item so I  had to invest wisely in this purchase.Ya I saw the video at Jay leno's garage and it actully pierced 1/2" OMG wowand from all I hear about the consumables SOLD to TonyWaiting for the brown truck LOLLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30

Reply:Your welcome Jim and I'm sure it will take care of  my cutting needs. My only problem is airgas hasn't  gave me a tracking # yet and it's a liquidation sale.case and all the goodies  1019.00 shipped hoping it's avaliable. hint hint .Being they took it off the site today I ordered at lunch Tuesday  it was still up. They really shouldn't have processed the funds till it was tagged for me. I hope there's probably one around not in the box or something .are those open box or remans ,tested returned or any of the above LOL.And what does the Enhanced consumable kit consist of?  I see no pics of that anywhere I look ...maybe adding that to the pics on the site or is it the kit you sell it's not clear how much or many more electrodes than the standard comes with..Oh and if there is anything you can do to see to it  that liquidated item hits the truckAnd maybe throw in a filter being I went broke purchasing your unit and probably be in the DOGHOUSE for a couple days LOL.I'd hate to have to wait for airgas refund I can get it localy 1015.00 tax exempt out the door here in good ol Mcalester  OK. at Air gas but no case, circle cutter, or stuff. You  and all these guys out here really made me think duuu what the ------- was I thinking gonna buy china JUNK and then I woke up I was dreaming that ...The thought didnt cross my mind after the demonstration from the FLEA MKT. guys ,I't was just a thought can you guys forgive me as I'm all AMERICAN was just wanting to save money for the wife and kids. But I really am saving them the heartache of me spending the money on a piece of foreign JUNK                                     THANKS alot for the input guys        And the wife is really happy for me Ha Ha LOL..For real if I couldn't get it I'd be like the kid that left the candy store with nothing!    Oh ya jim I will definately post some pics  one thing i didnt see demonstrated was it cutting 26 GA. roof tin  I'm wondering how much paint it will burn off if any  looked like 1/4" with paint up there looks GREAT. And cutting faster on tin hmmm  maybe pretty darn clean.Maybe to thin to cut fast enough w/o burnin but it'sGonna be so much better than snipping it or skill sawing it. I hit the bottom cut edge of the tin with a roller where they get cut for the valleys. so if it burns I'll paint it anyhow "supposed to so they don't rust anyhow. I'll be designing a mitre table out of 11/2" box aluminum for the Hypertherm to ride on maybe with a plunger system for the torch  to hop over the ribs in the tin without much distortion dunno. "need a miter table anyhow" the plunger deal though for roofing adaptable to theese siding tables guys use ma be a market for this one if it works so any patents I want royalties LOL. Gonna have to see how it goes with the tin. and get some stickers from ya for the table and my dump truck  LOL I'll stop rambling now wondering, worrying, waiting for my new baby                                         Thanks TonyLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
