I have a Lincoln SW175 that was sold to me with a wp20 series water cooled torch. It also has an air cooled torch wp9 with the red super flex cable, the air cooled torch establishes an arc fine just a quick HF buzz then arc. The wp20 on the other hand does not it only HF arcs no dc arc. I gave the cables a once over and there are only two spots on one of the hoses where they are slightly melted but no leaks as far as I can tell. This torch does have a gas thru water cooled adapter by tec torch. I am not sure if the connector would have anything to do with the lack of arc.Any ideas?
Reply:Did you check to see if you have continuity from the tungsten to the end of the red cable on the water cooled torches? Water cooled torches don't last forever and will eventually break.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:I just checked from the threads inside the torch head to the power connector and also to the connector underneath the handle and it has clean continuity. I will plug in a. Tungsten and see what I get.
Reply:Ok so here I measure resistance from the dinse connector to the tungsten, the setting on the meter was 20m ohms. On any other setting it would read 0 and the continuity setting reads continuity with the alarm ringing. This pic shows something that leads me to believe its the dinse adapter, as you can see the pin that would cam over and lock is slitghtly tilted and I was able to turn the connector a full 360 degree unlike the factory connector which turns and stops solid. My shot in the dark solution to the problem was to buy a new CK worldwide safeloc connector as it looks like it is designed better.
Reply:my guess would be a bad power cable the copper lead  does errode over time also if you have water in the line it will still not show thats its open but when you go to weld it will not workLast edited by WeldorWes; 06-07-2013 at 08:46 PM.Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]

Reply:Are these water cooled power cables in direct contact with the cooling solution or are they jacketed within the return line?

Reply:2 Meg ohm, which is what your meter is showing, is an open, no current is going to flow. You need to find the open and repair/replace. At 100 amps, even 2 ohms is too much.JimMaxtor 150STH

Reply:Not intending to offend you by asking a potentially dumb question, but you do have a cooling unit attached to your water cooled torch right?Dynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly

Reply:Yes the welder was sold to me with a tweco 900g so it was pumping water fine. The torch had been sitting for about 5-6 years. I ran it wil cooler on then thought cooler might be interfering with the machine a flicked it off but still only had high frequency arc. From the get to this torch never arced.I am pretty convinced it is the power cable, so the guy who sold it to me is going to help me buy a new one we decided on the torch kit from welding direct the nu-tec sr-20-25. At $75 you can't beat that price.
