Dynasty 200DX as carry-on luggage?

Has anyone ever successfully carried a suitcase welder on an airplane? I need to fly with one but don't want to check it. It would be the power source only. I don't see any regulations preventing it specifically.  ThanksMiller 250DXTD Cutmaster 100Duct TapeBFH
Reply:I think that you are going to get a few funny faces at the security check. If I were you, I wouldn't even try. Any chance you can specifically call the airport and ask them? When in doubt, get there with plenty of time ahead and go straight to the security check. Ask them if you can get through with this. If not, check it or ship it.

Reply:Put it in a hard case,  pack a small firearm in a soft case in same case.   Check the case at check in.  Lock it with your own NON TSA lock. Reply:Sending it fedex or ups would be the best thing to do, its cheaper than dealing with all the headaches and possibly loosing it in the airport. If I had to carry a welder with me I would rather drive to my destination and enjoy the scenery. JMO

Reply:Photo and Video gear is sent on planes all the time. I wouldn't worry about checking the Dynasty packed in a good pelican style case. We do it all the time. Reply:I've seen guys travel with the little Miller Maxstar 150 inverters, using the contractor case that miller sells as one option for that machine.  A dynasty is too big to carry on, which pretty much means you're checking it.  A pelican case is a good bet, I use one when I need to travel with welding or other gear I don't want smashed.  Barring that, I'd pack it in two boxes, one nested inside the other with bubble wrap or packing peanuts filling the space between the boxes and around the dynasty.  TSA will have their way with it, so I'd pack a roll of quality packing tape inside with a friendly note asking them to re-seal the box when they're done.When all else fails call your airline and ask them how to handle it.  Or just get to the airport extra early....Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:It sounds like airport security is really lax in the US. You'd never get it on as a carry on in Canada. You can't even carry a toothpaste tube or water bottle over 100ml as carry on. I went to see my sister at Christmas in the the next province, 1:15 flight. My sister owns a salon and gave me gift pack of hair products for the GF who couldn't go. It had to be checked and couldn't go as carry on. I've even had to let them swab and check out a battery operated dump truck the last time I went. Even nail clippers are a no no as carry on. An electronic machine, forget it!
