Picked up a new to me lathe last week. At the weekend, needed the trailer for other duties and rain was on the way. Lifted it off the trailer with the gantry and had the forks ready for it but it was too tight to put it in the shed door sideways. So, loaded it on timber on the forks and strapped it to the mast. So far so good, apart from the air under the front wheels. No worries! Fish out the spare tractor weights and add them to the front. Wheels touched down and we were off in low first, fine but it wouldn't do a tightish turn so had to use the pedals to slew it round. Reply:More weight up front, sit on the hood backwards with the steering between your legs and steer it like a fork lift in reverse, that ought to have done it! #1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!

Reply:The only problem is the capacity of the front end.Worried no end when I made the front end loader for my tractor.  I didn't know if the front end would stand up to the strain.Ive had some problems with the pivot pin.  I blew out the restraining cap and the pin started walking.  I finally took some 3/16 plate and welded it in place of the restraining cap with a high nickel rod(the pin is in the bolster which is cast iron).  It hasn't moved since, but I keep an eye on it.Downside to the upsized ladies...... Reply:Reminds me of a John Deere farm tractor we used in a shop.  It had a forklift attachment on the front and huge counterweight  on the three point.Broke left spindle then later on right spindle and finally the transmission case fractured through.  The transmission case was the backbone of the tractor.
