Flap Discs go over 120 Grit.........

Since I started learning how to polish Stainless Steel for Dominoes....... I was only able to find up to 120 Grit Flappers for my angle Grinder........My other choice to get finer grit.... before going to buff..... was to spend a BUNCH of money on different equipment to get a finer grit.......Well..... McMaster Carr is my crack addiction....... I have found up to 600 grit flappers......... for my angle grinders........They are stated to be for non-metals..... but..... i'm going to try them on stainless..... 220.... 320..... 400..... 600..... then.... buff with green....PICS...... Reply:The number in the box isn't the price is it? In granite work I use polishing pads from 50 to 3500 grit ( sparkley ) I have messed around a little on metal does work.. A set of pads and a backer that fits your grinder and a router speed controller from HF would run ya under 250.00 . Gran quarts often has deals on their close outs page.
Reply:I'm not sure what the number in the box is......Even with a $30 blade for the bandsaw.... The total order was $70 before shipping........ So even if they burn off real fast...... Reply:After i finish with the flap disc work, I use the 3" and 2" roloc fiber discs for my finer polishing and finishing with great results.  I have not used them on stainless but I dont know why they would not work.   I purchase mine thru enco.

Reply:+1 on the Roloc discs. The 3M Scotchbrite discs come in coarse, medium, and fine and are available with stiff or flexible backing. I mostly use them on silicon bronze but they work well on stainless as well. They leave a very nice finish.Those silicon carbide flap discs for "non-metals" are also recommended for copper alloys and cast iron.
