Ok, bear with me I'm going to describe it as good as I can..I was playing around with my new hobart 210mvp, and it was doing great on 3/16", and 1/8". I was finishing up my cart welding some 14ga to some 1/8" and a couple of times during those welds the "bacon sizzle" sound stopped and it sounded like loud "escaping air" it wasn't the shielding gas, it was the actual weld. Would too much stickout cause this? I was in an awkward position and I'm wanting to say it was about 1/2" or so, or would it be voltage, wire speed, etc.? I'm using .030 with 75/25, and the settings were set for 16ga, since there's no 14ga on the panel.Yes I'm new to welding, so take it easy on me.. Just trying to figure out if it was the welder having issues or me..
Reply:What position were you welding in?
Reply:Too much stick-out could cause it, also too much voltage. Stick-out should be 1/4 - 3/8". If it happens again, either turn down the voltage or turn up the wire speed.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I got it, I was playing around with some scrap today, and I turned the wire speed real low, and it was doing the same thing..
Reply:I did the exact same thing when I started. But then the other day I tried to weld vertical down and got the same sound.  Thought maybe it was that. Congrats, you are on your way!
