Which looks more desirable? And it's crazy how different these look. Rather surprised actually. 11018 and 7018 1/8" rod, 1/2" to 1/4" plate just screwing around. Reply:Thanks CEP. Next Sunday I'm going to do a full bevel multi pass with 3/32, 1/8, and 5/32. Just for poops and laughs. This is kind of interesting me now. Might even try scr inverter vs transformer machine too.Powcon 300st (my favorite)Miller Goldstar 600ssLincoln Idealarc 400/400Miller 12vs2 LN25'sMiller Deltaweld 302Miller Bobcat 250 G EFIMiller Bobcat 225d Plus (Dropped a valve, up soon)Everlast 255ext (ordering soon!)
Reply:One looks pretty good, the other is too convex in my opinion. This creates a notch effect at the toe.Shoot for a flat face or slightly convex.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I agree Dave, the 110 almost needed a tiny weave which I started halfway through the rod.Powcon 300st (my favorite)Miller Goldstar 600ssLincoln Idealarc 400/400Miller 12vs2 LN25'sMiller Deltaweld 302Miller Bobcat 250 G EFIMiller Bobcat 225d Plus (Dropped a valve, up soon)Everlast 255ext (ordering soon!)

Reply:Also think the 110 may have been a bit hot. I choked off about 8 amps for the 7018. Maybe a higher travel speed too. I had the rod hiding the puddle on the convex side.Powcon 300st (my favorite)Miller Goldstar 600ssLincoln Idealarc 400/400Miller 12vs2 LN25'sMiller Deltaweld 302Miller Bobcat 250 G EFIMiller Bobcat 225d Plus (Dropped a valve, up soon)Everlast 255ext (ordering soon!)
Reply:They really really like a short arc. Like 3/32 or less, I use them a lot on Asphalt plants and crushers. They're tough stuff. Usually a softer (7018), root then finish out whatevers needed with 110.Powcon 300st (my favorite)Miller Goldstar 600ssLincoln Idealarc 400/400Miller 12vs2 LN25'sMiller Deltaweld 302Miller Bobcat 250 G EFIMiller Bobcat 225d Plus (Dropped a valve, up soon)Everlast 255ext (ordering soon!)

Reply:The type of etching material must make a difference. The OP's shows a rounded profile into the steel which makes sense. CEP's appears to show only the weld metal and has very straight lines of fusion? coming to a point which seems odd.
