Reply:Congrats from a newbie welder who just discovered hot metal. What I can offer is the fact you should be duly proud. Anyone who sticks by whatever they love to the point they can actually get a government or trades certification is a stand out. I'm a pilot so I can only speak from there. There's alot of people who can fly an airplane but piloting one means you've mastered a well-rounded, complete understanding of aeronautics. My friend who's teaching me to weld got his LA City welding ticket and now he's going for the next level. He has mastered the same in-depth understanding of working with metal.   There's something to be said for getting your ticket in anything that requires a complete understand of the discipline and like flying, it has nothing to do with putting metal to metal. Deservedly, congratulations.

Reply:The trucking industry is fighting this tooth and nail.  The schools want to become CDL test centers (written AND driving) in addition to giving absolutely lousy training.  More guys on the road who don't know what they're doing. "Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:My school has welding inspectors teaching class. We get certified right there. Nothing wrong with that. But it really doesn't matter. The cert just helps you get an interview and the company your interviewing for gives you a test too. A lot of companies around here use my school to test welders. They send their own inspector, but they use our facilities and most of the time they are testing our graduates.

I look forward to your posts. There are a lot of people on the Internet who are just way to proud of themselves. Don't let them drag you down!

Reply:Originally Posted by LanseI really do think Hobart is worth it... This coming from someone who absolutly HATED high school, and the idea of more education in general...Im learning a lot there... I recently took the bumpers off my truck to re-paint them, and I was looking at my own welds and thinking "Man, this just... isn't good"... And I thought I could weld half decently when I built those things like three months ago!! Haha...The instructors there are top notch, they'll work with you through any problem you have... And if you actually want to learn, they'll bend over backwards to get you to where you want to be...And the school will even help you find work when you leave... They have a job center there, and as of last night, the lowest paying jobs are in the $12-$13/hr range, and the highest was $57.31/hr, with a whole lot inbetween...There are a LOT of ~$20+ hour jobs that come up, and somewhere in that range would be about the minimum I'd take, leaving... I'm certified, I will have passed every class I've been in, can pass a drug test, damn near perfect attendance (I got really sick and missed two days recently), I'll come out at, or near the top of the class, I really think I can pull it off...Its not a bad deal, AT ALL for 9 months and $16K in tuition...I'm super glad I went there, I honestly love that school. Highly recommended...As for now tho? This paper doesnt really change anything much for me... Thanks again, you guys are awesome!!
Reply:Awesome, thank you PapaHarley!! Good tips, good tips...IMHO tho, *this* more than anything has made that cert test, and every other weld test I've taken worthwhile.. And I just took it like a week ago!! Hoping it pays off in the form of a nice job someday Again, thanks for the kind words everyone [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:Thanks for the kind words everyone!!JD, yes, I'll make a full in depth review of the school when I'm done here next August...I live about 45 minutes away, so I just commute here... It's an awesome drive... And this school is closer to me than the nearest shopping mall [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:I don't want to get all girlee here but, as a veteran, I can't not tell you to cherish and relish this feeling. As a former Marine pilot, I can tell you, it doesn't get any better that moment when you get your cert because you did it. You. No one else. Just you and your commitment to excellence. You had the controls in your hand. You had the guy who held your future in his hands looking over your shoulder and you took it on. And you succeeded. There's nothing like it and there's no way you could or should be "too" proud of your accomplishment. Congratulations. Just know there's alot more to learn in the real world.

Reply:Haha I might someday, but for now I dig it. There's virtually no traffic issues on our roads, I can listen to music, talk on the phone, drink coffee, relax etc for 45 mins every day...I will admit the drive home kinda sucks... When it's after midnight and I've been working 8+ hours on top of whatever I did before school, I just wanna go hone and crash lol... But it's worth it 1000x over [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:Lance, she would kill me if she saw that post. She's going to BIOLA in S Ca, and she said " there are no real men at this university". I asked her what that meant. She said" I know when I shake their hands, they are limp and don't even have any callouses, it's disgusting, I don't think any of them have worked a day in their life!"  She has 3 brothers in the marines, so she won't hang out with guys who can't work, especially these new skinny jeans ones!   Keep up the good work! Let us know how the school is.
Reply:Congrats Lanse, I am really proud of you! Not just for passing your test but for ambition and good attitude you have. I feel that in this day and age when most kids can't get off their video game no one could look down on the motivation you display. I would hire you anyday!Good luck and keep it up
Reply:Hey guys, just wanted to thank y'all for the support and give a quick update. I currently hold 3 certifications for pipe and for plate...And last night I earned a fourth on 2" pipe, tig all the way out... Reply:It's an X-ray cert... Then after the pipe got back from the cert lab, we sliced it up and bend tested it. Here are the results...Just thought I'd share...
