I want to replace the 13hp engine on my generator with a 16hp electric start.  Is there anything that I should be aware of when doing a swap like this?  Are there any ratings I should know about?  Can it just be swapped out?  What will happen to the output of the generator?
Reply:Just make sure they both turn the same speed.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com

Reply:If it is a regular 60 cycle AC generator it should be turning either 1800 or 3600 depending on if it is a four pole or a two pole unit.but for 60 cycle AC the speeds are 3600,,1800,,1200,,900,,720,,,,,,,,,,,,,Something that small would be either an 1800 or a 3600 unit. You are adding enough engine power to make about another 1,500 watts or about 7 amps at 220VYou could probably put a 35 amp breaker in the circuit and not be pushing things too much.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com

Reply:Hmmm...  sounds like I don"t need to be messing with it.
Reply:You'll burn out the genset on it. That's a nearly 2x jump from 30A to 50A.If you need more power get a bigger generator or get a pair that can sync together.
