Here are my buddies titanium eyeglasses that I welded up for him. I used .045" titanium filler if I remember right and got everything clamped up with a soldering vise (which took forever). I used .040 ceriated tungsten, set the TIG welder at 5 amps with the post flow maxed out and bumped the pedal. Took a couple times to get a little weld, which I ground down with a dremel, dipping it in water to keep it cool. My buddy was planning on getting new glasses in a couple weeks when his insurance rolled over, but this held for a number of weeks, during which time he procrastinated. The weld eventually broke, same way as he broke them the first time (grabbing one bow and ripping it off his face), so then got his butt over to the optometrist and ordered new glasses. I welded it again, while he waited for his new glasses to come in, but it only held a few days the second time. I guess they use an argon purged vacuum chamber and a laser welder for this usually, which I'm sure works better, but it costs about 60 bucks and i think most people do this by mail. Considering that I was using grade 2? titanium filler and the glasses were probably some sort of heat treated alloy I was just happy that it held in there for a while.Thermal Arc 211iThermal Arc 201iThermal Arc 95SEverlast 200DXEverlast Powerplasma 50Victor OAVictor portatorch
Reply:Interesting, not something I would have likely attempted - too small for me.Kudos for the effort. Reply:Good job! I tried this exact repair on my boss's kid's glasses (titanium a well) but the old synchrowave just wouldn't go low enough  :-(Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk

Reply:My reading glasses don't work that well!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:I have repaired several RAYBAN sunglasses and found that silver soldering worked the best.  The biggest problem has always been keeping the heat from the torch contained to the area of repair.  Was not too successful most times, until I packed the protected areas with large lumps of VIGOR HEAT SHIELD and this worked the best.  Small tip, flux and thin silver solder wire (less heat needed). Just my experience.  Best  Bob
Reply:I believe Rayban uses stainless for their frames.Silver solder is the standard way of welding them.  Titanium frames are usually repaired with micro plasma welders.
