I never wanted to give McMaster Carr the $110 for one, but for $40 at the flea market with the hammer I had to have it.It is a 6 pounder, I will make some handles up at work and pour a few hammers. I still have hundreds of pounds of lead from when I was making fishing gear.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Pretty cool, I brought mine to work. A friend off mine gave me a butt load of polished brass curtain rod holders, they were like jewelry with nice thumb screws and want not, good stuff from Germany. I had no use for them and made a form and melted them all down to make ornamental brass straps for a project. Didn't work out too good. Everything got tossed in the boner pile.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:I scored these too, cant tell you what I paid for all of them, but lets say a 30 pack costs the same.....Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:One fresh 6 pound lead hammer, yeah this is what I do on Sundays for funDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Post 4 - LEAD on the Barbey !!!!
Reply:those boiler clamps can add up fast !!
Reply:That crucible/mold looks downright dangerous to handle...  Heat up and melt the lead, then holding the handle tip up to pour lead directly from crucible into mold....  tip a wee bit too much and pour molten lead onto self.  Hand, arm, torso, leg....   Gotts be judicious in how much you tip it!- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:can't quite tell the angles in the pictures, but my guess is it's not as dangerous as you'd think Mondo. Full poor probably has the handle at a horizontal position at the most. There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Yeah, photo 1 shows the angle pretty well.   Maybe not so risky.-MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:Great find. I've never tried a wood handle before.   I don't use the ladle built onto the mold. Instead I clamp them in the vise and pour from one of my larger ladles. Reply:So, what's the selling price to weldingweb members? I'm sure you can fit a couple two, tree, in a flat rate box."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:So, what do you do with a lead hammer? Never seen one before.Bruce

Reply:Awesome tools to have, a lot of old time mechanics always had 2-3 or more of them and would save the chunks as they broke off, add some wheel weights and wait till they were down to their last hammer and spend a couple hours re-pouring them, go back with a fresh set of new hammers for nothing more than a little time and some scrap wheel weights.
Reply:Tozzi, nice find but ditch that wooden handle. It WILL let down in a painful way.  I/we cast lead all the time, I'm in the industrial battery business, and wooden handles are a big no no when it come that type of tool.Originally Posted by kaldTozzi, nice find but ditch that wooden handle. Reply:Tozzi, nice find. I noticed you use a kitchen appliance to melt the lead. Seems to work but, have you thought about using a welder to melt the lead? Ive never seen/saw it done but, Ive heard of using a welding power supply to melt metal and then being sucked by vacuum into a mold for jewelry or ornaments whatever. I dont think you need the vacuum but the welder would melt the lead if someone could figure how to configure it.
