I would like to learn TIG for my future and so i can weld the once-in-a-while aluminum repair or build. I have an Old Miller Dialarc and a Miller Bobcat 225. What would i need to have a tig setup for either of those machines and how much would it cost?Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press
Reply:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-Welder-PeopleThis thread covers the 1st part of your question pretty thoroughly. Cost depends on how good you are at sourcing things. HTP flow meter is a decent unit and not too expensive. Say $30 or so off the top of my head. Maybe $15-20 for hose from reg to torch.  Tig torch with gas valve, maybe $100-125. Power block around $10-15, Misc tig parts, cup, collet, collet body, tungstens, gas lens, lets say $50-100 depending on what you get. Gas cylinder with argon, say 80 cf $165. So you end up around $450 or so with cylinder plus shipping and tax.Prices might be lower if you buy something used off flea bay or go with cheaper components that I used that I had links for quickly..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:For aluminum, you need AC AND a high frequency unit. That's where the cost comes in. On steel you can set up for about $200 or less.
Reply:Sorry I missed the comment on alum the 1st time thru for some reason. Neither of those machines are optimal for tiging alum. Neither will accept a remote ( the dialarc might if it's a Dialarc HF). Without a remote alum tig is much harder to accomplish while Dc tig on steel/stainless is much easier..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
