I'm still a student, so excuse me if this is obvious. My torch fell off a hook that was holding it up a few days ago. The tail snapped off right where it screws into the torch body. I stuck it back together with some weld on a roll but it no longer tightens the collet around the tungsten. I can't remember what brand the torch is. Not the ones I'm looking at, and my torch is in a buddy's trunk until Monday. Just wondering if I can buy any tail for any similar air cooled torch and be good to go. I'd rather not spend the gear room prices if I can get one online for cheaper.
Reply:The part you broke is the back cap, and thankfully torch parts are generic within certain series torch. You probably have a 17 or 26 series torch, so specify that when you order a replacement.

Reply:It's mine. It was provided by the school and included in the price of tuition. We do have a gear room but they tend to jack up the prices of the smaller items like insulators, collets, and such. I was looking online again and found something similar to what I broke... It specified torch numbers... 26 was in there. I guess I'll just wait until tomorrow to find out. Thanks for the input.
Reply:I can tell you the WP-20 and CS 310 use many of the same parts (nozzles, lens, caps etc.)Best thing to do is figure out exactly what brand and type of torch you have and look it up online. Google shopping will give you a pretty decent price. Keep an eye on shipping. Sucks to buy a $4 part and pay $12 shipping (and handling?). Ebay often has lots of little parts for welding torches (especially back caps).Note, the back caps hold the gas in. You may be experiencing contaminated welds even if you get it to screw in tight. Most (all?) have an O-ring back there to seal it.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:Got the replacement part from the gear room, to save any headaches. It was a WeldTec #17 torch. Also got a short cap just to have... it's like a button. Feels weird using it since I'm used to wrapping my thumb around the long tail. Thanks again. |
