Bender question

Go to the link below and watch the video:If you notice that when he is done, there is about 2 feet of each end that didn't bend, and there is an obvious bend.  Is this typical of benders in general, and something you have to factor in, or is it just when doing giant pieces like that?
Reply:JC.The limits of this kind of design and in general with any roller type bender is that the pipe must pass through the middle roller to be bent.  The end of the pipe that won't be bent is the distance that exists between the outer and middle rollers.  The larger the pipe roller, the greater the unbent piece.  However, all that is necessary is to roll a piece that is longer than needed and then cut to fit.  This type of overcompensation is really the only option.  If you are trying to form a perfect circle, the tubing can be rolled with a slight spiral, then hammered and welded flat together or it can be rolled until the ends touch, tack the ends together and continue rolling until the circle is perfect.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Thanks Lug.  That's kind of what I figured.  Tacking the ends of a circle then rolling it again is a cool idea.
Reply:I have a roller that is kind of like this one.  After the first time I used it on 24' lengths of 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 x 1/8 square tube, I replaced the crank with a gear motor.  Just finished with some 12' dia rings out of the same stock.  With 24' stock, you just cut off the straight ends to fit and weld the two 1/2 rings together.  Round stock can get a slight twist if you dont know what your doing.  This type of roller is not made to make full rings.  You can do it, but you will need to take the roller apart to get the ring off.
