When using a tube notcherhow do you keep the right axis or plumbif thats what you would call itwhen you would have to notch both ends of a tubethanks dave
Reply:When using a mill or hole saw type you can use a scrap piece held in your first notch to plumb with a level (make sure you machine is level) . I have a notcher for my ironworker and we line the seam in the tube up with marks on the body of the notcher that indicate 90 or 180.
Reply:I always reference my axial rotation with an angle finder and a small tool that I made. I don't have a pic of my exact tool but here is a similar one that you can purchase. These are typically used when bending tubing on multiple planes and are called POB (Plane Of Bend) brackets. Before I notch the first side of my tube, I set the POB bracket and my angle finder on the tube and set it to "0". I notch the tube and when I turn the tube to notch the opposite side, I can reference the "0". Also, this won't matter if the notcher is level or not because you are setting a reference to the tube, not the notcher.Hope that helps.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
