Reply:Definetly yes, and positively no.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Reply:im in the same boat, just remember, im busy busy busy as a pipe welder but have never set foot in an oilfield.the rig hands we hire to help us pipe make decent money, and stay pretty busy doing "easy" mechanical work that is mostly not as critical as oil stuff is.some guys do really well in oil, but the adds i have seen for jobs look pretty sorry around here, i here the money is better up north where you choose to either drink or freeze. i've talked to a few people that tried the "north dakota" thing and they come back like they just went through a tour of duty, one word answers for my questions.how was it?-coldhow are the guys up there?-drunkanything nice about the place?- noanything to do?- drinkbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:Pipewelding has been very good to me,but I didn't go the pipe liner route but I would have love to have the welding rigs those guys earn their living with.Instead I am a combo tig and stick, hand carbon or stainless pipe and I can also weld hangars or structural steel. This route has taken me from the east coast to the west coast in papermills, refineries, chemical plants, textile and nuclear plants, and Johnston atoll(demilitarization site)($$$$$$).Currently I'm a welder/mechanic in a bulk carpet fiber plant with a matching 401K plan, health ins. pention and daylight hrs 5 days a week with vacation and sick time, and being a pipe welder made this available for me.So approach every job as an adventure listen watch your own ***,dont bitch take it a weld at time even the limitied acess welds being willing to help the other crafts when asked.Frankly I welcomed the change to weld hangars for electricians, instrumentation, iron workers, fixed trowels for block masons.Being a road trash pipewelder was good to me. GO for IT.
Reply:Yep to what ole LynchWood said. Some kind of Big Blue constant current welding machineAnother smaller yet, Blue machine (it's got wire in it)
Reply:Pipe welding takes a lot of patience and a lot of toll on your body.
Reply:What is your age, experience and end goal that is motivating you to look at pipe line work? That will help answer your question. Life on the road is way over glamorized by some who do it and many a relationship has hit the rocks while on the road. LynchWood covered it rather well. |
