Just got a new shifter for my car and need to cut the floor open more to get to the tranny.  I was wondering if u guys share some info on the cutting tool I should use, sawzall, grinder with a cutting blade, any ideas are helpful ones. Dont't have a plasma cutter.LIVE BETTER WORK UNION! BUY AMERICAN!
Reply:Either the sawzall or the grinder/cutting blade will work. Just be aware of what your cutting on the bottom (electrical/brake lines/fuel lines) with the long sawzall blade. Don't ask me how I learned that!If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Reply:tin snips if its thin, jig saw maybe??love the bear, local 417 Daye
Reply:The best if you have a comp. is a small body saw with blade. They are quick and great for small thin body panels. You can get one form HF cheep even if for one time use( But will work longer) A 10 -20 gal comp. should work to push it. If not use tin snips, sawzall would be hard to work on small area and grinder will make a lot of sparks( unless there is nothing in the car interior) Thats my .02 which in todays money is about .00000001/2 I too learned the Sawzall rule on car cutting! new SS brake lines and all good
Reply:I would recommend using a jig saw.   The saw is small and easly to manuver.   The saw blade can be shortened to keep away from break lines etc.  A grinder will generate a lot of sparkes.  A sawsall blade is tough to shorten and to big to manuver.keith The older the boys, the more expensive the TOYS!!Previous owned;Linde 300 Amp welderMiller Gas drv welder, Tumbstone,Dayton Miller ac to dc converter,High frequency unitLongevity LS60PCurrrently owned;Longevity WeldAll 200PI
Reply:+1 on the air saw.  I've used them before for adding sidemarkers, someday I may even get my own.I think this is what SpeedyShark1 was talking about.http://www.factoryauthorizedoutlet.c...ucts/IR429.asp
Reply:That's it. You can get the one from HF for next to nothing. I got mine for $9 I think. Had a coupon and was on sale.If you like I have a 20% off coupon good till 28th if you want send me a PM with e-mail and I can send it to you. I have had mine for about 2yrs now and do not use it a lot, but still works and for $9 not bad. I think the cheaper ones need less air to push or could just be me Really though if you have a comp it is the way to go.
Reply:Yeah looked under nothing there buy tranny, no interior so going to try the cut off wheel.  Will let u guns know.  Got my welder too so we shall see how this little project turns out.LIVE BETTER WORK UNION! BUY AMERICAN!
Reply:Another vote for the body saw. The blades are much shorter than sawsall blade, make better curves and a narrower kerf. The kerf width might not seem like much until you cut something out and then have to weld it back together.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
