I have three options on my short list.I am new to Tig, but I have enjoyed the progress I have made so far and am sure it is the type of welding to help me make some objects I have in mind. I have a small shop with pretty good single phase power. My options in terms of pricing are"Used Syncrowave 250 . Hasn't been used much in the last ten years. Complete for about $1500  ($1350 US)Canadianhttp://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-s...AdIdZ131094681A New Precision Tig 225 from my local welding supply , who has been very good at helping me learn about welding for $2200 Plus TaxA New Dynasty 200 DX for $3400 US that I would pick up in Buffalo. (If my LWS can come within $350 I would buy it off him). Can a pulse function be easily added to the synchro 250 in the ad?Is the Dynasty going to be easier to get competent with on aluminum? Can the Synchro do small delicate  stuff as good as the Dynasty or PT225? Advice greatly appreciated as I should make a move on the used gear if it is the one to get. Will be thinking of what to do over thew weekend.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode

Reply:I suppose it is small enough to smuggle home in my trunk!! I love the idea of the size and capabilities of the Dynasty. I guess resale would be decent , as I think the market will be going this way from an energy efficiency point of view. Are there older pedals I could pick up used that would help cut the costs for the  Dynasty? The contractors pack is about $600 to get it running. Does the Dynasty have a distinct advantage on all metals when welding small items? Finally, would the PT225 be more capable stick welding than the DX200 ?Thanks.Last edited by Nicad; 06-19-2009 at 12:16 AM.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:I bought my dynasty 200 at irish in buffalo and love it,,,i too am new to tig and live in hamilton. Goggle them to get the address.
Reply:Ted,  did you get around paying New York, then Canadian sales tax when you bought in Buffalo? If I order from Cyberweld, I will at least save the 8.75% NY sales tax before I hit the border and pay another 13% or so. I am going to run the numbers by my local dealer and give them some leeway to come close, as I really want to support the store if I can. I need them as much as they need me. That 250 Synchrowave is tempting thinking how much money I will have left  in my pocket. The PT 225 is a logical middle compromise too. So far, my other tool purchases have been no brainers (Hypertherm PMax 600 and Miller 211). This one, not as clear cut.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:I'd get the syncrowave 250 and spend what you saved on a water cooler and new torch.Air cooled torches suck.Do you need to be mobile?I got my syncrowave 300 used on ebay for about $2000 with a finger control and a nice bernard cooler. It doesn't have fancy arc shaping like the dynasty, but it does have 400 amps. I'm not worried about depreciation here, there is almost 500 pounds of copper in this thing, even if it breaks it will still be valuable.Last edited by fortyonethirty; 06-19-2009 at 11:28 AM.
Reply:I second the miller got a 250 myself and love it. I weld just about anything with it. It is big and heavy though and does use a bunch of power. WIll out last me I think and yep get a water cooled torch and a pedal.BrandonLincoln Tombstone 225 A/C Steel StickerOld Victor O2/Acetylene setupMiller Syncrowave 250 Tig/PC-300 PulserMiller Millermatic 212 Mig HTP Invertatig 201 Giant Teck D50 Plasma cutterLots of HF grinders
Reply:I'd love the Miller, but the room it would go in is kinda small (About 16X 10) and needs to be modular, so stuff has to move around for other uses. I think it is just too big. I like the price and the quality reputation, as I love over engineered things.  When I add my two bandsaws, the welding table, drill press, etc, I think I will be bumpng into it.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:Well, I feel a little like the Guy in Wayne's World when he says "We are not Worthy" I pulled out my Visa at  my LWS and ordered a Dynasty 200 DX. I think it it will be a lot of fun and engaging to try my best at improving my Tig abilities. The Synchrowave 250 is just too big and thirsty. My work room is only 160 square feet, so maybe I can fit a small lathe in down the road. Another thing that has me a little tense is I know new models with more power/ less cost are right around the corner,  I am sure there will be quality offerings from Asia pushing Red and Blue hard. You only live once, so at 50 years of age, this is by far the most pricey tool I have bought that was not something I made a living with. Glad I bought off of my local guy, as he is excellent and came close enough to online US pricing to make it work. He is a wealth of info and loves the subject, so I have a feeling I will be well taken car of down the road.Last edited by Nicad; 06-23-2009 at 03:36 PM.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode

Reply:I think it's great that you took the plunge, and that you decided to support your LWS.  It's hard to put a price on that local support.  Have fun with it!!Work HARDER, not smarter! ------------------------ Miller Bobcat 250Millermatic 251Lincoln Precision TIG 185Hypertherm PM 600Hobart 135 HandlerOxweld 400 FlameMaster
