I am planning on wiring 7 harbor freight  90 amp arc welders in parallel. I am hoping to create a 630 amp welding circuit. If I do this: what is the max duty cycle of this set up. I am hoping for at least a 3 percent duty cycle but I think that's optimistic. If any has done this successfully please give me some input. What are some power supply issues I may run into?
Reply:All I have to say is, this may only work once, so please for all that is holy, video it and post it here.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!

Reply:To do it right you need to pull the transformers and wire the primaries in parallel and then the secondaries in series.  Wiring the secondaries in parallel is going to give you the same voltage while welding so it won't weld good at higher amperage.  The problem is the cheap Chinese transformers have small conductors that won't handle the current if you wired them in series either. So unless you can rewind the transformers it won't work.If your just talking about hooking all the welders to the same leads it will increase the duty cycle by six times for six welders, but the ocv will be the same, it just won't drop as much when loaded. You may get it to weld at 150 amps or so but that's about it because it won't have enough voltage. Those welders are about $100 each if I recall....that amount of money would buy a pretty good welder so you might do that instead
Reply:Some one from Canada has three in parallel (I think) not series?.  My Lincoln manual said that only two in parallel is practical.  Also, the current on both machines should be set to the same amps.
Reply:WTF do you need 600amps to weld for???

Reply:I just looked over his posts. Seems we have a troll.
Reply:Troll huh? Did you happen to see my posts asking about the thermal arc 211i? IBought that machine. Got rid of my 140c to get it. A buddy has couple HF welders and we were pondering possibilities. Troll no, not a troll. Since when are you the authority on trolls? For the record that remote device diagram does look like a detonator rigging, being honest.
Reply:What about the post that said thro ur welder in a river? Or set it on fire? U got a new guy telling folks to set stuff on fire and thro stuff in a river....that looks trollish. If I'm mistaken or read it outta context, I'm sorry. I just call em like I see em.So you gonna try to rewind the transformers and make a good welder?
Reply:I know from now on this is a no fun zone. Just trying to lighten the mood. Would have been nice if you would have given me a little input when I agonized over getting rid of my 140c for the thermal arc, on that note, I regretted getting rid of my lincoln initially, until I called thermal arc pissed off over the machine's performance-they were great it was a settings issue, they swore they would ship me a replacement in the first year. Put me at ease. As far as the HF parallel thing- we are contemplating this, not so much to use, but to see if it is possible
Reply:No-these are cheap welders he and I accumulated cheaply. So it has been done with 3 successfully? Will I need to run a separate sub sub panel so as to not fry my shop's sub panel? What amp breaker? I've been thinking this may not be such a great idea.

Reply:Well let's see.45v at 600amps would be 27000 watts. If you figure the transformers were 80% efficient that means you need to input about 33,750 watts.33,750w  at 240v would be about 141 input amps.Seems to be doable. Though I would suggest doing 6 or 8 so that you could make pairs of them in series and then hook them in parallel.
Reply:The lincoln manual said that two in paralell works for double the amps and probly duty cycle. Beyond two;  theres a factor that makes it un-practical.  I dont remember the xplanation. Why in tarnation would you want 600 amps?

Reply:Now that's going to be a fun little project, this I gotta see. You could put a collection tray under those boat anchors to guide all the molten copper to one spot after meltdown and take it to the recyclers once it solidifies for #1 prices. You're a fart smella...I mean smart fella, Mercnuts, hooking them up in the series/parallel fashion suggested by Bluewelders makes the most sense for oomph, otherwise Shovelon's image might be the result! Reply:Someone should get in touch with the editors of the Guiness Book of World Records and also whoever handles the Darwin Awards. I have a feeling that this project will qualify our poster here for both categories. Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:I have heard of outfits doing this for CAC machines But they normally do this using old good quality machinesAnd getting outputs of up to 800 to 1000 ampsAll i can say is WOW ..I hope for your sake Terry isn't  right ButI don't see those HF machines taking this wellThis is like the time a guy who was weaving all over the road passed me So i just followed him and the results were what i figured when he shot up over the curb and hit the fire hydrantHave you seen this post... http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=301611Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ??
