I have a Hobart 235 Stickmate 235AC welder, and need to do a project about 80 feet from the 220V outlet I normally use.  How long can the leads be on this welder?  I need to find some way to get it out there...-RuarkLincoln 3200HDHobart Stickmate LX235TWECO Fabricator 211i

Reply:Cripes, I meant "How long a LEAD, not how long a load"!  Anyway...Sorry....   it's a Hobart Stickmate 235 AC. I'll be welding 16 ga. and 1/8" mild steel, just building a greenhouse.  The welder will be set fairly low - about 90amps, using 3/32" 7018AC.-RuarkLincoln 3200HDHobart Stickmate LX235TWECO Fabricator 211i
Reply:If you have to buy the cable, it's probably cheaper to build an extension cord than extension leads, purely because the the higher voltage means you'll need less copper. Buy the wire and cable ends separate and build it yourself.
Reply:You could get some 1/0 leads and they would work but 2/0 would be better or make an extension cord with 4-3 SO cord.6-3 would work at those amps but if you needed it again and had to turn it up to full amperage you would want the heavier cord to reduce voltage drop.
