I have a 1988 Miller Big 40 Gas for sale. I am selling it as a PARTS machine. Last winter we had an over-night ice storm before I went to fire it up. Something in the governer housing froze up. The engine started and took off. It was turning probably 3,000 rpms when I heard a back fire. I turned it off. Looked at the governor housing and saw oil oozing from it and in the oil was metal shavings. So something oviously gernaded. I was never a true fan of this engine when I bought it. It had a rear seal leak that I could never fix. I also felt like it was under powered- it has the Continental 3 cylinder engine. Probably as a new engine it worked great but not after 20 years of poor maintanance. I know the generator works well. Previous owner said it never air-arced and I never did any air-arcing with it in the 2 and a half years I owned it. It does come mounted on a two wheeled trailer. Welder is located in Northern Virginia. If interested contact me. [email protected].

Reply:Dualie, Yes. This is a constant current welder. It does not have a polarity switch. It has 3 KW of auxillery power. It does have a 5 pin remote recepticle. Other than that its plain jane Big 40 welder. I even had to install a hour meter. When the engine blew, I was in the middle of a pipe job. It probably made me around $30,000. I paid $1,600 for it in July 2006. Like I mentioned earlier, it is mounted on a trailer. The trailer has two new tires on it. The trailer has a pintle hook set up.
