Has anyone seen or ever added an air compressor to a TB? I have a good friend that has an add on to his SA 300. It is service truck mounted and has a small foor print. He can Air Arc off of of this. I don't plan on running it anything like that. J am going to skid mount my setups. I was thinking if I could drop the size of the skid that would be nice. I don't do enough to justify an Airpak. I am going to build some stuff on the back corner of the farm and it would be a nice addition. I can buy an engine drives compressor but this skid will be huge or I will have multiple skids. Thanks for your time.
Reply:If it helps .. I can run a Rigid Jobsite 110 compressor  off of the Legend Ahead  that i just got Its not 'a lot of air , but will handle wrenches fairly well if you dont get in a hurry .  Footprint of the compressor is about 1.5'x2' . Its not on my skid  but rather just pitched into the back of the pickup as needed at this point .
Reply:What's your rig? One good way to go to save substantial amounts of space and still get copious CFM with a high PSI would be to install a Kilby air compressor onto your engine (http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/kits.htm).  Also, if there isn't a kit for your vehicle, just means you'd have to make the brackets and such to mount it up.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:I like the idea of a truck mounted air if I did more field work. My skid is for playing out in the field and occasionally I take it in a plant to use as a generator. Mobile air would be great. Thanks for the ideas.
Reply:That kilby pulls over 100 amps!!!   Better plan an extra alternator if you go that route.
Reply:Miller done  that already and it works quite well tooI know it's expensive but i have never been sorry for buying the TB 302 AirPakYou cannot beat a screw compressor for output...except.........with a bigger screw compressor  Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:I just can't justify the cost currently.  In the last year I haven't ran a full tank of fuel through mytrailblazer or the other BobcatI really want an Airpak diesel 302. Yes I know that diesel isn't an option in these small current power plant with air. Even if it was available I couldn't justify the cost to play.  I have to many other expensive toys (tools)
Reply:Oh i know i have not been very busy either and that is why i can't buy any new toys either...I'm glad i bought it when i had the moneygoing back to work on a guys race car tomorrow and the pay isn't great but i want to finish it and get it out of my hairBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:I saw a guy running a air compressor of a trailblazer or bobcat. He fabricated a shaft to run off the flywheel and on that he had a electric clutch hooked to a pressure switch looked like a 15 cfm or so aircompressor dont know if he could weld while it was pumping air or notMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:That jack shaft is exactly what I wsd thinking about. I might try it on my little bobcat.
Reply:I've been thinking the same thing for my TB280. If you do it, JeffKiper, please post pix and let me know!Cheers,Q1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 RefitMiller TB280 w/Spoolmatic 30a2016 AHP AlphaTIG 200XAncient Millermatic 35Zeny Cut50 plasma cutter

Reply:That is what I am looking at doing.
Reply:Hi neckless,Is that an air brake compressor from a truck and how many cfm does it pump?  Is it enough for arcair gouging?"The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:yes its a truck compressor of a mack truck  a little biger than the truflo 500 thats on most trucks ,, i should do a post about this job,,, not a lot of money but a few days  on a buddys lathe..  this will run a arc air  at a steady  70lbs of air and does not compromise the weld power since that what a governors job is. it does  make the 4 banger  earn her keep . notice the electric clutch, its off a 69 Cadillac   ac unit, man they want 600 bucks for  a clutch  back in the late 80s
Reply:had to change shunt coils last year, gave her a face lift
Reply:If that makes a 4 cyl lug down then I will probably just buy a engine driven compressor.I think it would be a fun job to play with. Maybe in my slow time I might have to try it on the spare Bobcat. This TB has 2120 hrs on the clock and the Bobcat has 128 hrs. I picked the Bobcat up for trade on a few hrs of labor.
Reply:I think Tractor Supply has the best deal on a truck mounted air compressor.  http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...air-compressor  If TSC isn't  in you neck of the woods then maybe another similar company has a new unit that is not terribly priced.  I pieced mine together from Craigslist and stuff my uncle had arround.  I don't recall what I have into it but I'm sure its less that 1000$.  I've seen used units on CL for about 1000$.  Another option is to use a YORK AC compressor on your truck.  Kilby Enterprises that was previously linked sells parts to adapt those compressors, I used the thread adapters from them.  They were like 40$  I did a junk yard Onboard Air on my 67' Ford 4X4 with a 390 about 10 years ago.  I think I was in 500$  It worked great.  However I never tried to run carbons with it.  It did run an impact very well though.  Another option is to run an air pump with a PTO off your tuck transmission.  The PTO box may be tough to find for your specific transmission.  Just some ideas.......
