Found this place in Pasadena, TX near the house.Very rare you find a scrap yard that will sell as well as buy.Had to keep my wallet in my pocket while looking as it was to tempting to start buying....just incase. Price for all steel scrap .$15 a lb.They had plenty of structural steel, pipe etc. Plenty of stuff for artwork.Last edited by In Utopia; 02-19-2015 at 12:13 PM.
Reply:Enjoy and use the heck out of it while you still can. I've little doubt that lawyers are frothing at the mouth waiting to exploit as many injury lawsuit clients as they can shove through the door.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:That's a great find. Buy all you can, as Roy said. They could put the kabosh to it at any time.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Yep, broke my heart when my local yard over in WY informed me they could no longer let me back in the stacks. That was a year or so after they had stopped letting the general public in. One of the amazing things is seeing just what gets tossed. Each area is different I'm sure, but around here with the methane wells, mining and oil industry there were a lot of unopened bags of bolts, rebuildable vises, hyd. cylinders, etc. Once brought home two 4' X 10' sheets of 10 gage that had sat too long at the mine, been scheduled for removal prior to inspection and 86ed. Also have had air over hyd. foot units scrapped because they needed refilled with hyd. fluid and the methane boys didn't have a jug available. So ENJOY it now and mutter dark calumnies about legal shysters later. Reply:One of the many scrap yards here sits the large earthmoving equipment in an area by the road (behind the fence of course). It's not uncommon to drive by and see a half dozen welders of all flavors sitting in the pile. Not for sale of course. Tried multiple times and will continue to do so, but it's pretty hopeless.

Reply:if my riflescope was so bad in needed to go to the dump, id have shot it up on the range and saved the trip
Reply:We have two of them locally, and both will let you walk around and "shop" among the piles. One of them is stocked pretty well, but is a little more expensive and selective on what he will sell. The other one doesn't have near the scrap, but will sell anything on the lot. |
