I bought one of these some time ago and I liked it at first.  But after a while I noticed the table itself would start to warp if things got a bit too hot.  I recently took a welding lesson and the guy who owned the shop had a table built out of angle iron and u-channels, so I borrowed his design and made it smaller.  The thing is solid enough I could probably use it as an anvil and the extra weight makes it just a bit more sturdy.http://imgur.com/a/KBWYp

Reply:HI Like the top I am guessing the channel is 2" X 8" and the angle is 2" X 2" X 1/4" or 3/8" is that correct.ThanksTom
Reply:I can get clamps down in between the channels, though it's tricky.  It's 6" U-Channel with 2" Angle Iron.  I'm not sure it's the best design choice ever, but it works for now.
Reply:I don't think those legs will take much beating(use as an Anvil)?I like the top though!I envision it with the clamps going through as mentioned.
Reply:I don't see how the channel would be good for clamping. If the clamp fits thru the slot there will not be any where flat for it seat on. I would think rectangular tubing would be suited better for this? Unless you use T-nuts like on a milling machine table and used clamps made for them. Or maybe I am missing something?
Reply:Look on his photo's, he has a clamp stuck through to hold a small piece.
Reply:Looking at photo of clamp only makes me think its not the right material. I wouldn't want the screw of the clamp under the table.
Reply:When mine gets warped more, I'll do the same.  Right now its OK.As for the screw of the clamp.  One of the issues is spatter.  Too much, in the wrong place and you aren't loosening that clamp anymore. But it begs the question.  If I were to build such a table top (and I do like the idea), 2 x 6 x 1/4???  Do I really need/want 1/4"?    And if so how big of a gap.  I have some Bessy clamps.  Should I just leave enough gap for them to turn sideways - I think I can reach to the center of 6".Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
