Hello!I am in need of a plasma cutter! It can be any model as long as its a well known brand like Lincoln, Miller, Hobart, Thermal Dynamics, Esab, L-Tech, Linde, and so on, prefer not to have a Chinese model!I need one to cut up to 1/2" bar stock and 1" rod, so a 40 to 50 amp would do, more amps would be better, less amps would be consideredIt also needs to work on 120/240v single phase and up to a 50 amp service!I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I am looking at an older unit, as long as its resonably priced, and or you wouldn't mind working with me on the purchase. It can be a good working model or one that needs work, as long as parts are still available, or replaced by any off the shelf stuff like in the case of a dead circuit board that I can rebuild with parts purchased locally!Anywhere USA is OK, I can probably arrange for it to be brought from you to me, or shiped in the case of a smaller, lighter model. So, if you have one sitting around thats in your way and collecting dust, please contact me by either my email: [email protected] or call me at 260-358-4246Thanks!Ken.#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:Go to Craigslist.net  then go to New Hampshire.....search "plasma cutter".....there was a Hypertherm Powermax1000  on there for $1400.....its worth over $2100.You mentioned all the "well known brands" but did not include Hypertherm! Hypertherm is the largest producer of plasma cutting equipment...and are manufactured in Hanover, NH, USA.Jim
Reply:Thanks Jim!Actually, I did mention Hypertherm, but not directly, they fell under the "and so on" catagory!  That would be a nice cutter to own, but I am afraid it is above my buying power at the moment. But, in a few weeks, we are looking at getting a pretty big tax return, and I am planing on using a portion of that to buy one, so its hard to say!Maybe if they still have it after we get the check.Oh!The tax return is what I meant by someone working with me on the purchase, a tad of patience is all I am asking!Ken.#1. Reply:Hi smurfwelder,  yes you'll do good to stay away from chinese.I bought a Hypertherm PowerMax 45 for my personal use and I have been very happy! Its paid for itself already and its only a month old.TomCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Thanks for the comment Spector! Not to knock those that have them, I just prefer to have domestic made products, for various reasons!Everything I have in my home shop was American made, from the largest pieces,  like my big Canady Otto industrial drill press and Ramco 55ton shop press, to the smallest of things like my collection of Triumph drill bits and mill cutters. Some things I have are old, like for example, that Canady Otto for example, it was made during World war II, very large and weighs a ton literally, but they just don't make them like that one anymore, not even here in the good ol USA, that one is almost 70 years old and still going strong, I imagine it still will be, and still giving good service to my son, long after I am gone.#1. Reply:I just came back in here, and reread my above post I had left yesterday, and realized how it must sound to some!I didn't mean to sound pretentious, Its just that it has taken a lot of years, coupled with hard work and some real sacrifices to get what I have! And yes!I am proud of the fact that all of my tools are made in the USA, but sometimes I let that pride get the better of me.Sorry!Thanks!Ken.#1. Reply:Now, come on guy'sAs many members that there is on here,I know theres got to be a handful of you on here with an older, broken down plasma cutter, thats just sitting there, collecting dust on some shelf or maybe forgotten and left in some dark corner of their shop, that would be willing to let it go to the needy "ME"How about we make this a challengeWho's going to be the first to come across with one?I am serious, as of right now, I don't care whats wrong with it, even if that tech told you it can't be fixed, I'll bet that it can!!!As long as it wasn't dropped off the back of your truck while going down the road or been cought up in a fire, or something along those lines that is.Ken.#1.
