I'm in the process of building my first welding project, a welding table, and I have a question.I ground the rust off the 3/8" plate that I used for the top. Should I coat it with something to keep it from rusting again? I live in New Mexico so humidity really isn't an issue.I'm happy with the results so far given that this is my first attempt at welding. It's not perfect but so far it has stayed together.
Reply:Light coat of WD40 and wipe with a rag. That'll take care of any potential rust issues
Reply:I rarely use this for anti-splatter but for cleaning & conditioning my table and tooling. works great.
Reply:Thank you both for the replies.Millermatic 211 AutosetMiller Spectrum 375 X-treme
Reply:Keep the table top clean of dust, metal shavings and welding spatter as those will rust first before the table top will. Wire wheel on a grinder will take care of any surface rust. Thats what works for me anyway.
Reply:A sanding disc with backing pad works well too. I have a Big ol Milwaukee that is great for that. I use a 9'' disc. |
