Does anyone know if the modern XR-A push pull guns can fit/work in an S-52 wire feeder? I'm talking about the guns that fit into the 350P's. I have an XR wire feed cabinet for my phoenix 456, but I don't like the pistol grip gun and all the other guns I see for sale have the modern connection.John 3:16(2) Miller Pheonix 456(2) Millermertic 252Dynasty 210DXHobart 210MVPDoringer D350 SA Cold SawScotchman 350LT Cold SawWebb 10x50 MillWebb 15x40 LatheGeka Bendicrop Ironworker
Reply:Nope. The slave motor on the cabinet or a compatible mig machine is specifically designed for use with the XR/Python/AluminaPro gun. They sync with each other. Before the 350P machines came along in the popularity they have now, miller sold a special adapter box that connected to the MM 251 machines that would sync the feeder motor in the welder with a Python style gun. I know a dude who has one. It allows the miller back ended Python guns to be used directly with an MM 251. All he welded was aluminum with it, and went thru way too much for a spool gun. Now, with the 350P it's kinda obsolete. You get it all in one package, with pulsing too. You'll have to have the compatible unit to operate with the gun, I'm afraid. I'm thinking all the newer guns have the full size Miller back end on them, and I'm betting the later model XR cabinets do as well, not the small connection for the conduit of your 30A XR gun. I don't recall ever seeing an XR cabinet with anything but a 30A style gun tho.The 50 series feeder has no electronics to support the Python gun either.
