i been doing some projects lately for myself (mostly automotive) that uses alot of  aluminum tubing in the 1.75" area. i normally anneal it to bend/work it. but instead of annealing the 6061, could i just use 3003 or 5052, or another series that is readily cold worked? anyone know where i can purchase these series aluminum in tubing 1.75" o.d.? can you post a link for me??? thanks!Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
Reply:I have no idea where you are located, but 5052 is bendable, and I can get it from almost every supplier in town. Just ask for 5052 instead of 6061, shouldn't be too hard to get unless your in the boonies. If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:Im in Orlando Florida. so i do not live in the boonies. but were not much of an industrial state. so most metal suppliers only sell in large bulk. i usually just need a few feet at a time. so im much better off with ordering online...i found a few places, but the wall thickness are to thin. i need something along the lines of 1.75" od and a .065 wall. what type of 5052 aluminum tubing have to bent with success?Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
Reply:Well I'm in Tampa, you shouldn't have a problem finding it at all. Call  Metal Supermarkets in Tampa, 813 -241-2276 They will have cut off lengths, if not, I know Town & Country Metals has an Orlando office, they will have it also, but they only sell full lengths, their prices are pretty good. 407-292-1517If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman

Reply:Try 6063 tubing. It bends well; that is what we use for boat towers. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:6063 will work, thats what I use for our towers also. I "think" it is a specific alloy only for anodizing though, sen2two- check with those guys and see if they can get it in a mill finish prior to anodizing. If you cannot convince them, confuse them.         Harry S Truman
Reply:If you're going to anneal, don't waste your money on T-whatever aluminum.
Reply:i would like to skip the annealing. this is why i want to get away from 6061. i just want to take the tubing and bend it without worries. i tried bending a 6061 1.75"od tubing (.065 wall) without annealing. i didnt make it past 30* before it had ripples in the bend area. im using a JD2 model 3 bender. you guy think the 6063 would work for this? any links on where to buy it online? i havnt had any luck locally so far finding the 5052...Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
