How do you weld cast steel (not iron). Can you weld it with regular 7018's in a pinch?Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press
Reply:Sure. It generally welds pretty well. As always with cast, it depends on the alloy though.
Reply:7018 will probably work. If the weld just cracks down the middle (or at the end) then use 312 filler.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Well I just gotta chime in here and blow my trumpet........I use a plasma welder.....yeah the Multiplaz 3500 thingo....... and that uses the parent metal to do the bonding.......similar to Tig where you melt the two metals together and add filler if necessary.Using the parent metal melted together ensures the joining area is the same throughout the job, not with a different metal fill in......with cast steel if I had to add fill in metal I'd use a piece of spring steel......it has just enough carbon in it to make a sound joint without going glass hard.Ian.
Reply:7018 with a preheat. You should have no problems if you know how to weld.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
