My Dad bought this stupid breaker bar for use on his van.it is angled out, they tried using it today andas expected the angle causes the socket to slip and damage the nut.I am wondering if it can be cut and welded back straight 90,are these typically chromoly and what electrodes would work on this if possible ?thanks,LMM 180
Reply:Spend the 20$ and get what you need. Not weld failure in the middle of nowhere......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:None of those lug nut wrenches really work well with both hands on one end. They all really need support at the angle end. Add the flop of the socket fitting and it goes downhill from there. Some that fit real good you can get by with it in a pinch. The rare good one you might sneak by with jumping on it if there wasn't any other way and you feel stranded otherwise. The cheaper the worse. Some are worthless out of the box."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:I would heat and bend that wrench before I cut and weld it.I bought 4 ways for the wife and daughters cars, then taught them to use the jack to hold the end of the 4 way up so they can stand on the cross of the wrench to break the nuts loose. Then put the jack under the vehicle to pick it up! Retighten the same way!
Reply:I like using a swivel head breaker bar. Bought a couple cheap 3/4 inch breaker bars and sockets that I keep one in the truck and one in the trailer. Since the head swivels it can be kept at a 90 degree to the lugs for cracking them loose, then straight out and spin them like a screwdriver to remove the lug nuts. Thinking I might so the same with a 1/2 inch breaker bar in the car. Got a couple on clearance for $12 each.Last edited by bead-boy; 03-11-2015 at 12:19 PM.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300
Reply:Why not just make your own heavy duty one. Is it for lug nuts?
Reply:A lot of fear about welding this on here, gees, you'd think those nuts would be torqued to about 3000 lbs.! I'd go for it, if you have the time to spare............or maybe file a flight plan, in case you are out of cell phone range.......

Reply:I have one that looks pretty much like that, but it has the socket welded on it (from factory). So far it has never slipped on me and the cool thing is that I also carry a 3feet tube to get more leverage. 4 way wrench may be even better (don't know) but I have the feeling that using a breaker bar could be more dificult, plus it takes more room on my trunk.I would suggest just welding the appropiate socket to the wrench as is. The angle is needed for clearance.
Reply:Sometimes you just have to buy good tools. Throw that in the garbage and save the rubber grip for another project. LOL how much you wanna bet the glue on the grip is stronger than that whole Harbor Farter. Reply:Use one hand on the socket end and it should work better. I would definitely heat/bend before cutting though. Originally Posted by weldermikeThrow that in the garbage and save the rubber grip for another project.
