I'm looking for some good quality reasonably priced C clamps.  I would want them to be pretty stout so I can pull two pieces of steel together.  I'm sick of using clamps that want to twist under a heavy load, or the little swivel foot keeps falling off.For lighter clamping I use the welding vise grips.Anybody got any favorites they can recommend?Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch

Reply:You just received some excellent advise from both gentlemen.
Reply:Bridge clamps, such as http://www.steelerectortools.com/page/page/2931741.htm or https://www.armstrongtools.com/catal...sp?groupID=185
Reply:Quality and reasonably priced do not usually go together.  You can watch e-bay. for Williums, Bessy, Armstrong and other name brands.I always tried to work with the oldest hand on the job to gain knowlege but now I can't find any.
Reply:Last couple years I've had good success with Irwin's heavy duty quick grips. The blue and silver ones. Can't beat on-handers we you work alone200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Unless you're made out of money, go to Harbor Freight and pick up their 6 and 8" c clamps. No fancy copper coating on the threads (you can spray the thread with mig anti spatter when your tacking).6" clamp 4.99 on sale, 8" clamp 6.99 on sale. The idea, believe it or not, is to have as many clamps as possible.  You will never have enough clamps.I've never sprung one, mainly because I don't expect ANY clamp to be a hydraulic pressMost clamps are ruined by the same guys that break bolts when they torque them  Same with destroying grinders, grinder wheels, and cup brushes."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Thanks for the replies.  I'll check out some of your suggestions.  farmersamm, I agree you can never have too many clamps around, but I want at least a few that can take some pretty high force.  And yeah I've been accused of being able to "F@ck up a Crowbar in a Cotton field" a time or two.Do any of you have any experience with Hargrave clamps?  Apparently that Wilton's economical line.  MSCDircect has them at reasonable prices, I think I'm going to order a couple and see what they are like.  They've got a heck of a strength rating that's for sure.http://content.wiltontool.com/catalo...p_brochure.pdf Attached ImagesMiller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch

Reply:400 series Wiltons. Expensive compared to Harbor Freight but entirely reasonable considering how long they will last.

Reply:Bessey's are one of the best clamp out there but there not cheap.
Reply:Are you sure you need better c clamps?  Maybe its time for wedges, bullpins, fitup nuts and scrape plate, that way you can makes some c's and use the other stuff to apply pressure.

Reply:PICS...... WE NEED PICS1750lbs of metal sitting on the back of the truck at 57 cents per pound.  You figure the math.About 12(TWELVE!) 80 dollar clamps worth,You wanna work with the metal, or play with the expensive toys????????Get the cheapest serviceable equipment you can find, not saying to buy a crappy welder, and focus on what it's all about.  It be about the metal.  No metal, no work. And it's sitting, BTW, on a 2500 dollar truckPRIORITIES!!!!!!!!
