How much would you pay for one of these tables? The ad says 1/2" top, 88" wide, 33" across

Reply:Scrap price, plus maybe $20.  They are a very unusual shape and were probably built for a specific purpose.  Unless you have a very similar special purpose, there is a lot of wasted space there.  There will be even more wasted space in your shop.  The strength of the legs isn't up to the strength of the top, and the crossbracing needs reworked so you can set in the center of the table.
Reply:I wouln't even buy them,. why save a few dollars just to have to work on some crazzzzy shaped table all the time, pound foolish, penny wise IMHO.

Reply:Price out some flat 1/2" plate large enough to build a table. Those tables may not be the most desirable shape but they're still 1/2" plate and 1000 times better than any wood bench for working with steel. For instance, if you were TIG welding using a foot pedal, they would make an excellent table. Maybe I'm crazy but if I needed a steel table(s) I'd probably pay a couple hundred bucks for them.

Reply:I kinda like them. Look like great assembly work tables or as previously mentioned, TIG welding tables. Sit a chair or stool in that inner radius and you have more area within your reach than the conventional square table. If you got the space, maybe take one of them. Reply:Those were the shape of the reading desks we had when I was in first grade. Teacher on the inside, 4 or 5 of us on the outside. Great for such applications, but the crossbars need removed for that.  Might be great for kids art table applications but really hard to see any other use, the weight and 'danger' of metal makes me think schools and preschools/day care would say no thanks.  As others mentioned, may be perfect for tig, or even assembly like mig or stick applications.MillerMatic 252Miller Xtreme 625Miller Digital Elite
