Had another go before i throw the rail in the bin.I would say that i got a slightly better result. You may comment as to which you think is better. This cut was hard on the tip ( lots of blow back ) but it still continues to work very good.    ( will post some pics of tip soon ).The fan in the machine didn't come on for that long and i didn't reach its duty cycle.Only a short time for reposition and cut, cut, cut.Had to use a fair bit of standoff at times as the torch would not fit at certain angles. It amazes me how this little machine performs.  Now i know how far i can go before i need to drag the oxy out.I remembered the tape measure this time ( both metric and imperial for international compliance ).This machine easily outperforms its rated severance and cut.If anyone is considering buying a plasma cutter,  consider the PowerMax.I dont work for Hypertherm. Reply:Very nice! When I started work at Hypertherm over 30 years ago...it took 550 Amps to cut through 1" material, and the power supply for that plasma system weighed almost 2000 pounds. You just exceeded 1" with a 45 Amp plasma.....with a power supply that weighs less than 40 pounds.Of course cutting that thickness with the Powermax45 is perfectly OK for occasional use...however if you are going to do heavy material often.....there are larger systems such as the Powermax1000, 1250 and 1650 with more power and higher duty cycles when cutting thick material.I also have a 45 in my home shop.....and if you figure the cutting power per dollar spent....I doubt any other system can come close. The engineers at Hypertherm hit this one right on the mark!Jim
Reply:I will probably never cut rail again, but it was good to see what it could do.As mentioned i had a fair amount of tourch standoff at times and it almost continued to cut just like i was draging. The drag shield cleaned up good with wire brush after cut.The electrode and tip seem to be ok.  Can still make a clean cut on smaller stuff but kerf is probably a little wider.

Reply:Hi storts one of the things that may help you out is if you have google tool bar on the top of you screen click on the spell check feature. I do touch typing for the most part and that google feature has saved me  many times.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:You can find the google toolbar at http://www.google.com/toolbar/ie/index.htmlIf you download it then click on the toolbar once installed. You'll see a wrench over in the right corner. That wrench opens the Tool Bar Options, In that window click on Tools then look for the Spell Check under Tool Selection. While there you might want to check out some of the options to be sure they are not checked! Such as your location (sends out info on you location), sharing info, and a few others.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
