I just acquired a Ramco RS-90P 8"x13" horizontal bandsaw from my brother for nothing (although I do have to build him an auto rotisserie from his materials).  I just ordered a new coolant pump since the seals around the electrical line in the existing one were missing.  It also needs a blade.  My cutting needs are hobby use and will mostly be square, round, and angle less than 0.250" (no flat since I have the plasma cutter).  I am considering a bi-metal, variable pitch blade with 10/14 TPI (maybe Lennox).  Am I on track here?  I seek the wisdom of the masters. Thanks EricMillerMatic 252, HTP 221 w/cooler, Hypertherm PM45, Lincoln IdealArc 250 AC/DC"I'd like to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible"
Reply:Hello Eric, that sounds like a very good choice, it will cover a wide range of materials, just try to keep an eye on your blade speed and feed rate as well. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:While I'm at it, does anyone know where to get blade coolant in the Austin TX area?MillerMatic 252, HTP 221 w/cooler, Hypertherm PM45, Lincoln IdealArc 250 AC/DC"I'd like to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible"

Reply:joedirt  Thanks for the info.from the table you provided for tooth selection it looks like my choice of 10/14 may be too fine.MillerMatic 252, HTP 221 w/cooler, Hypertherm PM45, Lincoln IdealArc 250 AC/DC"I'd like to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible"
Reply:I would go with the 10/14 blade you mentioned.  If you get a blade with too few teeth (too coarse), you will have trouble with thinner stock.  Better to have a blade that is a little too fine than a blade that is too coarse. Attached Images
Reply:Eric, as joedirt1966 pretty much said it, the thinner stock and in particular items like thin-walled tubing and pipe, will be much better sawed by using the blade size that you originally spoke of. With the finer tooth configuration there is less likelihood of hooking a point and breaking it off. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Funny, I just picked up one of these last weekend!  I am also in need of a blade but am having trouble finding the right size.  The paper I got with the saw reads, blade size: 9' 7 1/2" x 1 x .032" or 115 1/2" long.  I am seeing lots of other sizes except this one.  Any help would be great!Chris Allredwww.UnusualFabrication.com
Reply:Hello Chris, there are a number of different lengths required by any number of different saws out there, it's highly unlikely that you will find an "off the shelf" length that will fit your particular saw. A couple of options for you could go like this: if you have a Fastenal dealer anywhere near you, you can go to them and have them make blades to fit your particular length requirement, I believe they readily carry the Lennox brand of blades. DoAll is another provider of blades, same scenario goes for them. You might have to go online or contact them by phone to do your ordering, but they can also make and ship blades to you by giving them the length, size, pitch, type, that you would like. I believe Starret is the same way with their saw blades, although I can't remember right now who represents them, possibly many different industrial suppliers do. So don't stress about not readily seeing your particular blade length offered, in most cases you only need to supply a length, etc. and you'll soon have a blade in hand. Hope this helps a bit, best regards, Allanaevald
