Reply:Looks like it may be part or most of the quill on a line boring rig, but definitely not a complete unit by any stretch.
Reply:Either a line boring machine or an engine boring machine. As 65535 said, looks like it's missing a piece or two.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:Looks fairly complete to me. Motor, three-stage speed reduction (belt, spur, worm gears) from motor to spindle, manual/automatic feed via the crank/spur gears at the top of the column with an "L" slot to manually engage the spur gears. What more do you need other than some safety guards? Have you put a belt on it and cranked it up (hopefully after making sure things turn freely and the gears are OK and lubed)? What kind of tool or boring bar holding taper is that at the end of the spindle? Is there a through-hole in the spindle for holding a tool?Looks like you're all set to go if you can mount a tool or boring bar to the spindle. You would presumably fabricate a means of supporting the far end of a boring bar custom for each job.Neat find.awrightLast edited by awright; 03-27-2010 at 02:10 PM. |
