Here is a little chop saw i built the parts for 10 years ago and finally finished. I use it to cut the little SS train track for my ceilingtrains.com bridges. Then i roll the track to the right radius with my little track roller. I made it 3 years ago but just added the motor drive from another machine...Bob Attached ImagesBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:Wow, that's a pretty beefy Lovejoy coupling on the output shaft of the gear reducer.  What, no ball or roller bearings on the pivot shaft for the cut-off tool and no thrust bearings between the pivoting channel section and the stationary base blocks?  Not even some oilite bushings on the pivot?  Some small pieces of channel, a little piece of angle, some blocks, a mounting plate, some fasteners, an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel, and some orange paint  , done.Nice project.  It does what it is supposed to do, and it works for you, so   The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:now that is just cool.  or as my 10 year old would say, "That is Tight!"
Reply:I remember checking out your ceiling trains a few months back and how awesome they are. I find your tools even more fascinating. Purpose built tools often save a lot of time. I imagine the cutoff wheel on the grinder is thinner and faster than a normal cutoff saw. I like how both halves are supported. Can you cut angles on the saw? I can't tell from the pictures. The roller is super simple and looks like it works well. Thanks for sharing.

Reply:Use away. If i didn't want it copied i would have left it in the corner for another 10 years LOL. If i was going to do another saw i would just use a 29 dollar grinder from the farm store instead of the 100 dollar Craftsman. Oh well thats what i bought it for...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun

Reply:Hey aametalmaster;+1  Are you working on a small cutoff machine for the 133# rail on the bucket? Some folks on the Holland gang might be interested....Matt
Reply:I seem to have lots of rail laying around. I use it for something to beat metal on when i want to disturb the neighbors I think it would take that saw a few minutes to get thru the big rail...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
