Reply:I bet it's fun being up on the end of that silver arm when it's windy.    How high off the water is the top of it?
Reply:WOW. We dont get to see that in the midwest. What keeps it moored to the bottom? How does it not just rip free in rough seas?? Pretty cool!RG_______________________Hobart 187Northern Tool Plasma 375Harris 85 O/A Rig (Ireland)

Reply:@ alloy669(Inconel) - Rogue bro!  Are you the lead surveyor for welding/inspection in system classification? Designed to DNV-OS-C10? FPSU structure appears fixed versus mobile.  Anchor moored, gravity, or TLP? Deep water or shallow?  Impressed current CP?  Curious what 100-yr wave height (H 1/3) was used in the hydrodynamic modeling tests and LRFD design?  Have a blast bro and rip some images of the progress.  May you have fair winds and cooperative seas during commissioning.Last edited by ManoKai; 01-18-2014 at 03:11 PM."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:Very interesting project, and thanks for posting pictures.  As others have requested, can you post some additional photos with close up details?  I really enjoy seeing photos of machines/assemblies/etc.  What role did you play in the construction of that beast?Miller Dynasty 200 DXMiller CP-300 with 30A feederHypertherm Powermax 900Oxy-fuel w/Harris torchesScotchman Glide-in bandsawMonarch 10EE latheEmi-Mec Autoturn latheDeckel FP2NC milling machinePro-Tools 105 Bender
Reply:Yeah, post some details.  I thought I spotted some porosity on a weld on the stairway railing about halfway between the second and third decks."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:@ 7A749 - Saw that vid as a lad in 1995.  The leviathan object in question is the Troll NG Platform, built by Norsk Shell.   Full coverage at .  60min of mind-blowing engineering, operations, logistics, and imagery of the North Sea.  Inception to delivery for these projects is typically 10-15 yrs.  Rip it!Last edited by ManoKai; 01-18-2014 at 03:28 PM."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:@ dbotos - no doubt!  Same here.  And my bride continues to remind me.  The arbor, the SS shelving, the wood/steel table you promised me, ad nausea.  Should prob just work on the stop-motion time machine, but even that's on hold "Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
