I have to cut pipes up to 10inchActually I use grinder, but I'd like to buy something to do perfect cutsI would not spend much..
Reply:I use pipe wraps for that sort of thing. Wrap them around the pipe and draw or scribe a line around the pipe where you want the cut. Then cut the pipe with either plasma cutter, oxy-acetylene torch, or a grinder with a cut off wheel(7" works good for me). This satisfies the " I would not spend much" part and you can be very accurate.IAMAW Local 330Airco 300 AC/DC HeliwelderAirco Dip-Pak 200 with Profax spool gunPowr-Kraft AC225Everlast PowerArc 200stBuffalo Forge No.21 drill pressSpeedglas 9100xxAirco, Oxweld, Purox, Victor torchesLincoln Ranger 8
Reply:....Well...how cheap?....I once owned welding shop (1980-1985)...used LEE wrap-arounds to cut pipe up to 24" with oxy/acet, just drill a 1/8" pilot hole for torch to start cut....a short time later I bought a Koike 'Handy-Auto' motorized hand-held torch, one of the best investments I ever made in tools...reduced grinding time from hours to minutes, on all kinds of cuts, in all kinds of steel, pipe, plate, flat/angle/channel.... ....made over 300 wood-burning heaters/stoves from pipe diameters 6"-30"....I guess you could use an angle grinder with cut-off wheels....but they get expensive real quick....the wheels.... I made roller type 'stands' with 4 casters and two pieces of 3" channel....drill a bunch of holes in the channel so you can move the casters for different diameter pipe, casters allow you to keep your 'cutting area/line' on the top........no legs on the things...just set the two channels on the big plate steel welding table, or floor....for long pipe, I use 3-4 of the things...two under your 'drop'....two under the remaining remnant stock.Dougspair |
