Had some scrap 3/16 plate laying around and some small weld hinges that I didn't use for another project. The box measures 11.5x11.5x8.5 just because that's how the plate came out. Three hinges, simple turn latch, lock cover made out of 4.5" pipe and a small piece of plate. Coated with ospho and then painted metallic silver because that's what I had. Edges were beveled with a grinder and welded with 6011 on AC and then ground smooth. Just a simple time passing project. Can get more pics if anyone should wish. Thanks for looking. I’m just happy to be here!
Reply:I built a safe when I was a kid... it was made from pine. I made the door stepped like the bank. I was pretty proud of it. My little brother still has it after all these years. When I switched to metal working I never had the need for a safe again... I spend money faster than I make it.  I like the pitted look. It definitely needs a bigger lock. Thanks for sharing. Brings back memories.

Reply:Any passive pins, or something on the hinge side? You can put some angle iron on the inside of the door - just smaller than the opening and pointing back towards that jam.If you destroyed the hinges, it deters the door from just lifting off.
Reply:Thanks for the replys! The door is held closed by a piece of 1/4" x 1" flat strap welded to a bolt that goes through the door to another piece of strap that acts as a T-handle.  The handle rests against a plate with a hole through both for the lock.  The blued look would be awesome.  I may actually experiment with that.  Never done anything with any bluing before.  The angle iron for the back of the door is an excellent idea.  I had wondered if there was any remedy for if the hinges were mangled.  Yes the lock needs to be bigger and preferably one of the kind that is hard to open by hitting it with a hammer or prying on it.  Thats just what I had in my shop BTW, I don't have any money to put in the thing either.  Guess I could just put some of the tools in it.  Since that's where most of mine goes as well! I’m just happy to be here!
