Ellis Band Saw

So... I'm thinking about a new band saw and several folks here had good things to say about Ellis.  I got a little cash from some recent jobs that went pretty well, so now's the time.I do a little research and find some good prices online for a Ellis 1600.   What I'd really like is an 1800 but I still watchin' my pennies, like everyone these days.  Then I come across a slightly used 1800 on Ebay so I jump on it. I picked it up for about half of new, so I'm thinkin I did OK even if it needs a little work to make it cut good.  I get it home and can't wait to see how I did, so I cut a piece of 4" x 8"  1/2" wall tube.   1st Cut takes a loooong time and goes way out of square.  I figured i screwed up again and got taken on Ebay.  I got no choice... see what I can do about it.  I watched the Ellis online videos, and the next day ordered a new blade. It came in pretty quick and I put it on.  Made only a "tracking" adjustment, otherwise did nothing but change the blade.   Holy Cow!!  It cut perfectly straight! in about 40 seconds!   I ran in to show the Mrs how great it cut... She looks at me like I lost my mind!I have to say, I'm impressed!  & I'm feelin pretty good about myself... and that's worth alot these days!The best things in life all come on a stick!

Reply:They definitly build some excellent equipment.  I've had one of the model 1600 for close to 20 years.And if I ever see one of the belt sanders for sale locally I'll buy it!Mike
Reply:Yup, Ellis stuff is top notch. One thing I liked about them is you can fix their stuff with regular off the shelf hardware. They have very little special stuff to worry with.
