hi everyone. i am from Turkey/Europe. we use here 220volt single phase or 380volt three phase. i am searching powcon 300st from USA to here and in it`s manual says that "Three input voltage models are available 230/460V - 380V - 575V". can it possible to convert each other. i mean if i buy one from USA -that are mostly 575V or 460V- but here we use 380 three phase, can i convert a 575 or 460 to 380. i know 460 is usable in 230 but i need extra ampere because of welding thick rods 4mm or 5mm, also have to use cutting electrodes up to 300 amperes, and i wonder if 300st can not give these amperes in single phase. i know that it can give 375 amperes in three phase. is it true not to give 375 in single? (in here my china machine gives 160 in single and 250 in three phase.)and i want to explain why i want to buy a second hand powcon from transatlantic.I have a china (!) made AC (!) transformer machine giving low open circuit voltage(!) . so i feel bad about using this junk. i need a real(!) welder. but i have 2 option. mobility is a bit important. in second hand i can find cheap but nice rectifiers used in big shipyards as this http://www.oerlikon.com.tr/pls/oerli...product_id=505 if i could carry 300kg it was not problem. so i have to look at inverters but in that way firstly quality is problem. in here you can find many china junks that are so bad or 2000-3000$( in real, according to my high ampere need they are 3500-6000$) kemppi or similar brands that really very expensive here. also i need high amperes because i have to use cutting sticks (i will use oerlikon supercut http://www.oerlikon.com.tr/pls/oerli...product_id=410 here high quality and nearly cheap cutting electrode), so i need 325 - 350 ampere machine and powcon 300st is very well and maybe great because of high capabilities and also in TIG welding that is such a far option for me that machine includes in package I need your advice. many thanks for reading and answering. in my country welding or similar works are so far from hobby because here is an asia country maybe you know. so it is important for me to have you here. i am also a mechanical engineering student that really love mechanics also welding of course( and by being a student i think you can imagine how low is my budget. ) and sorry about my english, it is not my native language.Last edited by junior; 06-03-2010 at 06:45 AM.
Reply:in it`s manual says that "Three input voltage models are available 230/460V - 380V - 575V". can it possible to convert each other.Probably not without changing a bunch on things inside--transformer, etc.I have a 300 smt that can be manually reconnected for either 230 or 460 viaterminals inside the case, but it's not adaptable to 380 or 575......there's a company that services and sells powcon parts.....but I forgot who?........but then I googled 'powcon parts'and here they arehttp://www.arc-products.com/powcon-info.phpSuggest you contact them.Blackbird
Reply:I have a 300SM running 220 volts single phase. You said you have 220 volts single phase there. Most PowCons in the US will run on 220 volts single phase. So, forget the 380 volt 3-phase issue and just run it on 220 volts single phase.
