If you could choose a FREE stick welding electrode holder, out of the three, which one would you choose?  Is there a real difference, or is it just like the "Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge" debate?  I need to replace my existing one and I'm not sure which one is the "better" quality holder amongst the three. Thanks in advance.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:I'd say it's mostly like the Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge debate. Personally, I like the Jackson.
Reply:I prefer Tweco, Tweco Tong models. But when I weld chicken ladders, I burn the rods down to practically nothing so I bought a compact and light stinger, below. Each company makes different versions. Maybe post up pics of what you are looking at and people will give you more feedback."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Bernard short sub.  Use one, and you will never go back to tong style rod holders.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers

Reply:I have a Bernard Short-stub, but I find it slow and awkward to change rods compared to a tong-type holder. For "normal" stingers, I like the Lenco HT style, similar to the Tweco but better ergonomics IMHO.I have heard many recommendations for the Duro holders but have not tried one yet.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I just picked up a bernard short stub. Looking forward to using it. I've used a Lenco and thought it was pretty nice.IW Local 580 NY, NY
Reply:I have a shortstub, but the electrode always seems to point up after I tighten it. Do you bend every electrode, to get it to stick out straight?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I bend it to point wherever I want.Leo

Reply:I just bought a tweco 400 amp can't wait to use it. J.R.Bauer
Reply:Bernard short stub here also. Depending on what I'm welding, sometimes I'll bend my rod half way down into an L shape to get into a corner or into a tight area. Half a twist, swap rods, half a twist, bend and away you go.7018 is relatively inexpensive, I don't care if I only use half of a few rods to do a job. The important thing is to get the job done, properly.Last edited by snoeproe; 12-08-2013 at 08:29 AM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:i like the tweeco/benard shortstub twist type and have one on my shop machine. whenever i go out in the field i use my old school duro holder. all the parts are easy off for replacement and that heat resistant shield is an added +i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:I have used Jackson, Bernard, and several OEM holders, and I much prefer Tweco to any of the others.  The old Jackson holders are my second choice.

Reply:I like the insulated stinger v and the t300 Lincoln's (with a little customizing) really just depends on what your doing
Reply:Let's go burn some rod with the stinger we like. J.R.Bauer
Reply:I bought a task force stinger at Lowe's a while back. They were 5.00$ so i bought 4 Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2A 300 amp Duro is about the same size and weight of a 200 amp any thing else. The little shield on it really helps out when you burn the rods down short too. They last practically for ever. The one I use every day is over 30 years old.

Reply:Wow, this was an old thread, brought back from the dead!  Lol...   Well, to update, I ended up buying a Jackson.  I absolutely HATE HATE HATE those short stubs!!!  (Sorry, don't hate).   I tried one for about 2 weld beads and traded it for a Tweco tong 250 amp model.  I LOVE that Tweco and the Jackson is just "okay."  The Jackson is on the shelf.  I really like the Tweco and I won't go back to anything else.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member

Reply:I like the shortstubs but not for small electrodes. The Stinger V looks impressive (read about them on www.rigwelder.com), but I've accumulated plenty of stingers and don't weld professionally so it'll be a while before I buy one.http://stingerv.com/products002.phphttp://stingerv.com/products001.php
