Reply:I'm looking for the rocks? I see lots of dirt, but very few rocks. That doesn't look like any quarry near me. All ours have towering cliffs where they blasted out the rock to process it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:Keep the pics comin man! Most all the quarries around here have their own welders  I used to haul out of Vulcan Materials, McCook (was the busiest quarry) and Hansen Material Service, Thornton (was the largest quarry). The have Airpaks, Big Blue Turbo's, big ole SAE 500's........... Man, I would love a job there."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:I used to haul shot rock. it is hard on everything it comes in contact withLincoln 225 ac (my first machine)farmhand 115vac 70amp mig/fc toymiller aead 200le (my main machine)
Reply:That rock seems to beat the dickens out of everything
Reply:Exactly what us welders like.$$$$$
Reply:Have to have stones to call it a quarry. From the original Latin, quarry means a place where stones are squared.
Reply:Very first photo he posted has a huge stone outcropping behind the excavators. Third photo shows another outcropping with a big rock on top behind his welding rig. Fourth picture show stone drilled and ready for shooting.Pretty settled in my mind that it can be called a quarry, even if they are only digging a gravesite.Mr. HE
Reply:The area I took pics in has been blasted and crushed already before theses pics. Now there in the drilling and blasting going after more.Call it what you choose all I know is there is a lot of rock here to be processed.Last edited by admswelding; 02-03-2014 at 09:40 PM.

Reply:Now that mention mine, there is a federal mine permit number posted out front. And when I talk to one of the operators today on the phone he said MSHA came by for a visit.
Reply:MSHA does quarries as well. In my mind they're just a subset of mines.  They don't do blasting at the quarry I was at today. But that's just a function of the type of rock and formation. In this case gypsum. In fact I was replacing a shank on the milling machine they cut the rock with. I know they do blasting at some of there other locations and another company that was here tried to get away from the milling machines by blasting but ended up closing.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:I have hauled out of MANY quarries, for two decades, and guess what......... they ALL have dirt on top of the rock going to be mined!!! He is showing a couple pics, of one small area. I can take you to, what used to be the busiest quarry in America or the world, and I can show you hundreds of acres of DIRT, where they are starting to fill it in. Now, lets get back to some more welding porn............ keep posting more pics Billy!!!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:even if you blast you still gotta drill.    if you dont have to drill and blast and can get away with sawing, or ripping thats usually the bestVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:This is what they use here. Several others have been tried and failed in the past. http://www.wirtgen.de/en/products/su...l.4050.php#anc They are very expensive and a royal pain to keep running all the time in this application.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Irish, that Wirtgen looks exactly like the ones they use here to mill the asphalt surface, with exception of the EROPS. I'll bet it's the same machine, but I wouldn't imagine they use it for mining material.Hey Billy........."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"It's very very similar. In fact they originally used some asphalt milling machines. But Wirgen makes these specifically for surface mining. But gyp rock is hard on them. They say that gyp is actually harder to mill than harder rock. I'm not sure exactly why but part of it is the gummier nature (it doesn't chip out like harder rock) and the going into and out of rock nature of the pit. Also there's the mountains of abrasive dust on and in everything.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
