Problem with my MIG settings, or my technique?

Hey folks,I have a common issue that I run into while welding small projects on the car or around the house, and would like to see if someone can explain why its happening. While welding, often the end of the wire will ball up and weld itself to my contact tip. So I break it loos and trim the wire and start again, and many times it balls up immediately again. Is it something in my settings or my technique I'm doing wrong?Thanks

Reply:Hmmm I cant remember exactly, I believe it was 16 gau and on my Lincoln Handy MIG I had the heat on High 2 and wire speed on 9, 10 being max speed.

Reply:aluminized steel, grinded clean. Wire is .023 MIG wire, not sure on the brand, its what Arcet sold me.Maybe it was the ground, I had the workpiece in a vice and the ground clamp on the workpiece. Vice is bolted to the steel workbench. Does that sound problematic?
Reply:I would say more wire speed also.Does your contact tip extend beyond the end of the nozzle?
