How To Grind Out Rust Inside 3" Pipe?

Hey, all,I want to practice pipe welding with tig and I have some 3" pipe but it is very rusty inside and out. What can I use to remove the rust inside the pipe so I can TIG it nice?I have a die grinder with cheapo stones, but it just bounces around and the stones wear down FAST. I have a carbide burr for the die grinder but it chatters and grabs. The angle grinder won't fit inside the 3" pipe. I guess I could sand it by hand but that would take about 6 months.What is the normal way of removing rust back an inch or so from the ends of a beveled piece of pipe before tig welding? What tool do I use?Thanks

Reply:If you cant manage to grind it for whatver reason, grind the bevel and stand the pipe up in an inch of muriatic acid so it cleans the ID and OD.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:Chattering is ususly from hitting a rough spot or jagged edge. Don't spin it wide open.holding down with the right pressure helps too

Reply:Most common in the field around here is the pink aluminum oxide cylinder on a die grinder.  1/4" shank, 1" depth, 1" diameter.  If your tubes are so bad that this stone can't clean it you'll probably find it's too pitted to tig anyhow.  Metal burrs will work but with all the filings you try to avoid them as much as possible.  Also a lot of the chattering with burrs can be due to a bent shank.  Can be pricey.

Reply:Nope haha I was talking about stick. Forgot this thread was about Tig. BUT HEY that cone grinding rock will work to clean it out for tig.
