I have an old Chicago Drill Press (DP-515) which I bought at auction about thirty years ago. I'm looking for help in two areas - one - an Owner's Manual - if one is to be had - and - two - help in telling me what I need to do to repair it. As I was using it - the spindle fell out - and - I don't know "what-all" held it in place. Might a locking nut have come lose - or - might the shaft be worn? Any and all help will be most greatly appreciated. Thanks.Rich
Reply:A pict would help. With many drill presses the chuck is just a tapered shaft that is friction fit to the actual spindle. I'm guessing that the chuch and adapter is what fell out, not the spindle itself. If I saw it I could say real quick. If it's a tapered adapter, just clean it up well and clean the bore and then put down a block of wood and press it back in with the down feed..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
